Apple I-Phone Calender short falls

I got an apple iphone and its pretty good. But the calender application is poor. I add an appointment to the calender, which has a phone number, but I cannot call this number from the calender, I have to close the calender and dial the number of find it in the contacts and call the number from there. It would make sence to be able to call the number from the calender.
