We routinely hear people cursing, sledging. We, ourselves, would have cursed aloud or even in the mid when things are not going right, or we are irritated with something. But, I would like to know how were these words invented. Each country have something specific in its language. But, the meaning remains the same. How come??
Can these cuss words be used to find out the similarities between different cultures?

Possibly some of the words were considered offensive when used totally out of context such as in a fit of rage or frustration or in name calling. Also other words were considered to be downright rude when used out of context. Some were probably regarded as crude and vulgar especially those of an old English or Anglo Saxon derivation when in their original context they were merely descriptive. Not that I am an expert on the use of cuss words!

I suppose its because people generally think its rude to swear and/or complain in some situations. I think the words generally express that you are unsatisfied or tired of something in some way, or if something has gone wrong - and perhaps sometimes one ought to express oneself more clearly instead of just using those words. That being said, I use them all the time. Its a bad habit for me, but I only really meet resistance if I curse around my grandparrents.
