It is a myth that goldfishes has only a 3 second memory span. by the time they swim around the bowl, it will be a new experience each time.
ive recently seen Mythbusters, showing how goldfishes were able to recognize the path to food over a long period of time.

I also saw that, seeing what I already knew, well, with other fish, I suspected most are similar, but I guess even in the fish world, there are levels or mental capacity. I wonder what the smartest fish is, and the stupidest.
I have seen film and discussion that suggest octopus are very intelligent, cunning, like a fox.
I used to keep Australian fish called Redfin in a big glass tank outside, it had reeds and mud on the bottom, just how they liked it.
If I tapped on the glass somewhere, they knew they were in for a feed, and the little faces appeared straight away against the glass, with their glob glob mouths, ha ha.

I wonder how they follow my hand every time I go near them... (probably knowing the fact that its my hand that serves them food)
May be its part of reflex or routine!

Looking at the goldfish in a bowl or an aquarium is therapeutic for me. Never mind if they only have a three-minute memory. They give me joy!

I have seen training kits available for goldfish. You can teach them to swim through hoops and do other simple tricks. I would think that would take some kind of memory. There are videos on YouTube.
