Do you consider this Hands-Free!?

As I was in the car today, I passed by several hundreds of cars. Along my way, I saw a few people using their headsets and using a hand to HOLD ONTO IT TIGHTLY and talking to it. It's like using a phone! What's the difference of using a headset and holding onto it compared to using a cell phone regularly!? You're still driving with ONE HAND. How safe is that? What's your opinion? Do you drive and talk with headset while holding it?

Sounds like those folks need a better headset! I don't usually drive any more so I don't have that problem. But, if I am out walking and someone calls or texts me I stop as soon as I can and do whatever I have to do with the phone and then continue on my journey

THANKS FOR BEING SAFE! I just +'ed you :) Besides, many people get hurt, die, etc. from being on phone. Why can't people just give undivided attention to whatever they're doing? It makes everything more efficiently, done faster, and clear.

I don't know what it is about people and their phones. For my money they should either stay home or at work and use the phone there. Or at least turn it off while they are driving. As a walking person I can tell you that drivers on the phone are not paying any attention. I hope me or my family don't get run over by such a distracted driver

Yeah, God bless you! I believe cops should just give tickets to them more often than they already do now. Very unsafe, and they run people over all the time!

I dont think that is too safe. I thought that the headsets were made so that you did not have to use your hands. When I use my headset with my cell phone I do not use my hands at all, just to answer the call and that is it. I think holding the headset is kind of pointless, might as well not use one.

Exactly my point, why in the world would those people hold onto it? I believe they think the other person cannot hear too well. It's basically useless to do that, and they should get a ticket because of being unsafe. They are putting other people in jeopardy.

That's not safe at all. The point of using headset is so you don't need to hold the phone and can talk freely while driving with both hands. So what's the point of using it if you still need to hold it? These people need better headset. I think this is more like mentality. Since we don't hold the phone, some might assume the other side might not hear us clearly.

Yeah, that's what I think too. They probably think that the other person doesn't hear well, but what if the other person is crying in the loudness? Besides, I'm sure the other person doesn't want the person they are talking to being killed by some way or the other.

I don't think that's hands-free at all. Here in cali, it's illegal for a person to drive and hold on to their phone - whether or not their talking on the speaker, etc. If you're holding on to your phone while you're talking - the cops will get you. I got myself an 2008 Ford Edge with Sync - I talk on a microphone which is around the location of the rear view mirror. Then the person on the other end goes through my speakers. Yeahhh, I can't listen to music and talk at the same time. But who can and how do you pay attention to the other, right? I LOVE LOVE LOVE sync. It's very convenient.

Same with my other family friend. He has an Odyssey, and it has sync. Basically, I think it should be a mandatory thing without additional cost for sync to decrease mortality rates of multi-tasking people; especially those with phones. And you are right, you can't really concentrate with listening to music and talking at the same time. Just like school, you can't pay attention if you listen to music. Sometimes I don't get why teens listen to their music either.
