Help with my typing service!

I recently started a typing service after helping a college student with her project, but find that I'm having a hard time getting my business noticed. I posted my website on craigslist, kijiji, wanted wants, etc. I also am making flyers and business cards to post at schools, but I don't just want jobs from students as I can type up anything as my website suggests. I was wondering if anyone can give me any other advice about who and how to target a broder audience? Someone mentioned that she got a lot of her business from a private investigator as he had to constantly type up reports, but I have no clue how to contact someone for this. Also, if you know anyone who needs these kind of service then have them check on my website. I don't think we are allowed to post so if you want to look at my site then just give me a message. Thanks for your help.

Maybe you should consider two images to convey - one for students and another for businesses... For the students, you don't want to present your service as expensive and rather than pricing per minute, base it on either words or pages eg. $xyz for a 10,000 word dissertation... Students wanting to pay someone to type aren't going to be bothered with your wpm, they want to know how long it'll take and at what price... With business customers, it's not just about straight forward typing - you need to give added value eg. guaranteed turnaround time of x hours, encryption of files, conversion etc. You'll probably also need easy ways for business customers to contact you, by phone or otherwise... just a few thoughts... ^_^

Thank you for your help. I do have various methods of contact (email, phone, fax, etc.), I just don't have anyone noticing my website.

Have you done any SEO on your site? You could try direct marketing of your services to potential customers. An well tailored e-mail to a target customer may give you results. Do a little research on the people you're e-mailing or sending mailshots to. Make your pitch personal rather than general. Give advantages of your service in relation to their business eg. for the private detective - organise their notes, save them wasted evenings over a keyboard etc... I'm curious, send me a link to your site... ^_^
