Warning: Some might find this a bit weird: Are you taking the pee?

Yesterday I was having a chat to some friends over a cup of tea when I remarked that something tasted like pee. She asked me if I knew what pee tasted like and I had to admit that I do. I have tried it and it is disgusting! But not as bad as Cherry soda in my opinion! There are many health based claims made for drinking (your own) urine. Have you ever tried a drop of your own pee - or someone's else's?

I have never done this in my life however I heard that your own urine can be very useful to you when you have a pain in your body, if ever your legs are paining then you just need to take your own urine and apply it the places it pain. And evenif you have a headache then you can apply it on your forehead.

I have heard about using it for headaches and also for acne! I'm long past acne but I do get the occasional headache.

I have never tasted pee before. I heard that it is not all that bad for you though. I have heard that some people who did not have water for an extended period of time, drank their own pee to stay hydrated.

Sarah Miles the actress drinks her own pee Steph. Maybe that's why she's not been in anything for a long time! I have heard about people drinking pee when there is no other fluid available.

I just watched MANSWERS last night and they had a whole segment about drinking your own urine. Doctors advise against it since it is a metabolic waste product and all you would be doing is consuming the toxins your body was trying to eliminate. However from watching Man Vs Wild so many times Bear drinks his pee often to avoid dehydration. I've had a guy pee on my leg when I got repeatedly stung by a group of jelly fish but that is the closest I've ever come to having someone else's pee near me. I've never tried my own pee and I say every time I watch Bear drink his that I would dehydrate first so chances of me ever being able to say something "tastes like pee" are very very slim. I do the same thing your friend did to you every time someone says "that tastes like $h*t." I inquire how they can make the comparison.

True story. A guy that I once worked with visited a friend who had a couple of small babies. He sat whilst diapers were changed. He found a little peanut butter (crunchy) on his finger and licked it off.......................... Happens! LOL.

I have never tasted urine but it wouldn't necessarily hurt anything to try it. It's totally sterile, no bacteria or germs when it exits the body. That's why I don't understand why people freak out so much is a drop touches their hands. It's cleaner than water most of the time. However, it does contain most of the body's liquid waste so I wouldn't think it would taste at all pleasant.

Trust me when I say that it doesn't taste that great. Even a glace cherry and a little umbrella doesn't change the fact that it is truly an acquired taste.

Even thinking about it is enough to make me wanna puke. It smells so terrible. Sometimes it has a strong ammonia smell and man, there's no way I'm gonna drink or even sip that stuff. If I had to do it for health reasons I'd either choose to be unhealthy or I would have to add it to some juice or something....yukk!

Ummm, no, p1key, I've not tried either my own or anyone else's pee, and don't intend to! And frankly, in my comfy little life, I don't anticipate ever being compelled to do so. No survival situations for me, thank you very much. But it's so funny that you did!!! You're such a nut!! Ah, but that's just part of your charm.

Have to admit, I did find it a bit surprising that you know what wee tastes like, but then I like to think that I'm open minded! And while I've never tried it, I have recently been covered in it a few times during some accidents my daughter's had in the park! (It's much harder for a girl to wee under a tree than you would imagine, lol!) I would expect it to taste quite similar to how it smells, and so in the past I've also compared certain types of tea to wee. I remember trying dandelion tea in China Town and that resembled wee exactly, smelt like it, and tasted how I'd expect it to taste. Not my favourite kind of tea.

I am a slightly odd cove. I will try most things - although I draw the line at tripe and onions. I wouldn't drink someone else's though - even a family member. It is salty and a little bitterish - but I imagine that it depends what you have eaten of drunk recently. Now, bacon and eggs and a cup of breakfast tea (Fairtrade of course), and I'd have a glass on the go all day long! It's ages since I went to Chinatown. There used to be a place there with most amazing fish in tanks - Gerrard Place I think.

Yes, I've heard of that drinking your urine to allegedly make you well. Perhaps when it is obtained suprapubically, it could act as a therapeutic agent because urine is actually and ultra-filtrate of blood. But if it passes through the ureter, urinary bladder and the female and male organs, then it will be contaminated already with some bacteria, debri, and cells which may prove to be detrimental instead.

No! There are many things that I've tried, pee is not one of them. I've read that there are certain claims for health benefits. However, if there are some trace elements that are good for you, let the scientists extract them and bake them into chocolate chip cookies. If I were ever in an extreme situation, where my survival depends on it, is the only time I would consider doing something like that.

LOL. I tend to agree although I have tried and wouldn't recommend it on taste grounds alone. Maybe if it were carbonated it would be better. LOL.

I have never drank it or bathed in it but I know people that do! They swear by urine therapy for good health! Wash their hair in it and everything!!! I do not think I could do it but if I was trapped somewhere with no water, I think that I would probably give it a go! lol :-)

I don't think that I could go so far as to use it routinely for anything. Pee is an acquired taste and one that frankly I and most others can go without. I did it to see what it was like. But then I am a crazy!

I have heard of the supposed health benefits and I know that some people do drink their own waste but I personally don't think I will ever try it. The way I see it is that is waste and, as such, has been excreted for a reason. I suppose their might be some nutrients left that hadn't been absorbed but it's mostly all going to come out again. And, while I might try my own in an emergency, like if all the water in the world had tried up, I certainly would absolutely not try anyone else's!

When I was a kid some nasty and not very bright kids offered me a bottle of pee claiming it was lemonade. Being much the same sort of colour I suppose that they thought that I'd be fooled and drink it. However, not being as stupid as they thought I was, I sniffed it and of course smelled it right away. In any event, when I got hold of the bottle, it was warm from the fresh pee and that told me that there was something fishy going on apart from anything else.

The thought never crossed my mind. The only way I would even consider it is if ,I was stranded at sea.Only to keep myself as hydrated as possible. I have heard of urine therapy but never drinking it.As for someone else's pee no way,I would consider drinking my own first ! And that's a long shot.

Each to their own of course. I don't truly know how useful it would be in keeping you hydrated. At least it circulates and can be used, in a smaller quantity again and again.

Yes, p1kef1sh, indeed I have tasted my own urine! It happened a long time ago when I was a teen. I was plagued by frequent sore throats and tonsilitis from childhood, and came down with it one summer while vacationing at my grandmother's house. She is the one who told me to gargle in my pee to releive my sore throat - and it actually worked! Thankfully, I outgrew my tendency to get them so often and have not had to repeat the process.

I guess that it's the salt that soothes your throat. It's somehow more palatable than drinking salty water which just makes you throw up!

You are so weird, truly! I really couldn't imagine if I can try that. Well anyway, i know some that drank their pees just to survive (earthquake survivors). But as long as i'm on my normal state of mind, i would not give it a try. I know that pee or urine is clean (as they say) but I'd still would not drink it even if i'm dared!

I am weird. I don't think that anyone would deny that, least if all me! Life is an adventure, we mustn't hide behind our fears. Embrace life; but I do understand that not everybody wants to drink their own pee.
