Do you wish for a long life?

Many of us pray for a long life on earth. And what if God has answered your prayers and granted you a long life? Have you ever thought of the disadvantages of having to live a long life and becoming a nuisance to our children. Can you imagine living to a ripe old age of 100 years old or over? Will you still be able to recognize your children? Your eyesight is failing and is half deaf. When you walk with the help of a walking stick your face can almost touch the ground. Your face will be all wrinkled, the flesh hanging to a skeletal body. The witch like appearance will send young children crying frantically.
What is the use of having to live a long life when we are no longer useful to our children and to the society? We have lived a fruitful life and leaving our earthly existence should be a great blessing to us as we need the long awaited rest in peace and also to the children as it will be less of a burden to care for a centenarian. Afterall we have accomplished our life long mission on earth so why pray for a long life?

Hey,
Well I actually wish that I could have a reasonably good and long life. I can't imagine only living a few short years on this earth. When I was younger, I had a goal that I wanted to live until the age of 100. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

Hi zandi,
I wish I would die when I reach my 70th birthday. I never want to live above that age. As you mention, there is no point to live if you can't bring any good to your surroundings. And I hope when I die I am totally ready for my afterlife life. The story of afterlife life sometime make me scared. But we all have to face it and all we can do is prepared ourselves to face it.
Make a wish and hope the wish come true. God Bless.

everyone of us wants to have a long life..but i guess we have the thought that we have only one life and we borrowed this from Him. at the age of 71, it's a very blessing already to reach that age.

As long as I am healthy, I want to live a great long life. If i am not healthy, I won't want to live as long, but if I am still healthy when I'm well into my hundreds I want to keep right on living. It'll be amazing to see how the world will change in 100 years. It would be neat to think of all the stuff that I'd be able to remember, by then.

Hi Zandi, well when my time is up it is up..I don't want to live to be a a100 unless nature says it is intended, I have led afruitful life not always happy but am content with it and would willingly love to go to the other side where there is not worries or war...to be at peace with everything...so yep I am ready to go when my natural cycle here on earth is up....LoLo

It is not so much the length of my life but the quality of it. As you say there is no point going on with life when ‘you’re old and gray and always in the way” especially if your body is letting you down and you are burdening others.
I wish for a long healthy life only for my daughter’s sake because, for one she needs me as she’s only seven and secondly because I want to see the fine adult that she will become.
If I didn’t have my young daughter I must confess I wouldn’t care how long I live and there are days when I wish I was not here at all. Having said that, it is easy to take the joyful times for granted too.

there are lots of people over 80 who still look good and are very active in England ,they go up in hot air balloons go on their cruises. They have a brilliant time.Being 90 is not really old anymore,if your health holds out you can still have an interesting happy existence. There are carers that go into the homes of the old and make sure they are alright, only if they want someone of course. You make it sound like we are all going to be useless lumps look forward to being independant and happy.Yes some don't fair to well but there are lots that do lead a very happy life ,even in they do look like skelitons. The majority of people want to live for ever they don't think they are old, young at heart. Many older people are very wise and can pass their wisdom on to the young.

I actually wish for a long life.I want to achieve my dreams.I want to have a longer time of spending the money I earned and travel the world.but even if I wish for a long life,I don't wish for a very, very long life.I also want to join our Creator.if He says my time on earth is already up and He wants me to join Him in heaven,I'll do it.

I've ever think about it and have a long conversation with one of my friend about it. I never wish or pray for a long life because of the same reaosns you've mentioned above. I won't be able to enjoy anything if I'm too old. so my pray is to make my parents proud, have enough money to make my child success in his/her future and enjoy happy life with my husband. After that, I think it's enough and i'm ready to die. Maybe god will give me chance to see my grandchild,,

I am rather fond of living and one of my remaining ambitions is to become the oldest living UK Civil Service pensioner so that I can screw the Treasury for the maximum amount of money possible. I am quite young at heart. Maybe I never grew up properly or never wanted to. I like to keep myself fit and active and dont have too many wrinkles. So far none of my grandchildren have run away screaming when they see me.

I wish to have a healthy long life to see my daughter and her children growing up and living happily.I look young and healthy for my age right now and I am sure that I can maintain my health perfectly without seeking anyone's assistance in my old age.The moment I become a burden to someone I would like to pass away peacefully.

Forgive me zandi but I find your post rather insulting. My father is 96 and lives in his home by himself. He is quite well, has excellent eyesight and though partially deaf he wears a hearing aid. He is fit and active though not as much as he used to be. He is intelligent and has a fine sense of humour. He could last another 10 years and I for one certainly hope that this is the case. He is as entitled to life as anyone...indeed we are all entitled to live long and enjoy the fruits of our labours.
I see scenes of elderly people enjoying their 100th birthday surrounded by friends and family and they are not as you describe. You have an ugly view of humanity and I'm sorry for you that you feel this way.

Your views that the elderly are emaciated, scary to children and useless to family and society is insulting. This may be what the elderly in your country are doomed to be but it is not generally the case.

I don't see it as insulting. Maybe we come from different ends of the world and view life in different angles. Anywhere I appreciate your views and you sharing with us a real life happenings. I wish that there are many more people reaching a decade and still enjoying life without any hitch.

I live to live life to the fullest and experience the joy and pain..discover my strength and weaknesses..winner or loser it is a normal things in this life to test your limitation if you survives you are lucky if you bow to defeat..then it gonna be sorry for you..life is a matter of choice..you becomes what you are..because of your hard work and experience..and when you grow old and have grandchildren..how i wish to reach an old age aging gracefully with no disease... maybe despise life, may play a joke on me and treat me badly where I refuse but still comes..I am going to face it no matter how hard is the journey..painless is impossible even the rich have their own share of joy and pain..I wish to live a full life with a purposes...whatever age my creator wish me to perish..i could not complain..because he is supreme being and he is the only one who matter when life ends ..he hold our destiny..

No I never wish for a long life. I would be happy if I could spend some five years after my retirement from the service.
The main thing is that I would not like to be burden for any one.

Ok added another 10 years. What if my parts and joints bid adieu and you skin can not help you pull longer.
Just I do not wish to be a burden on any one's shoulder.

It is odd when I was younger I never thought I would live past 18 and did not really care one way or another. Now that I have kids and much older I realize there is much I still want to see and do. I hope to live to see all the things I want to but on the other hand I live life for each day we never know if there will be a tomorrow so we must appreciate today like there is no tomorrow then there can be no regrets
