What did you want to be when you grew up? (as a kid)

I wanted to be a fashion designer when I was in grade school and thru part of high school. Then I thought I'd like to get into day care but then thought gee I don't know if I'd want my own kids if I take care of someone elses all day. Plus my early childhood teacher in highschool was a witch to say the least and thought her kids were perfect kids and were on pedistols. Sadly I'm in my early 30's and still don't know what I'd like to do.

Oh, come on, I took my first plane flight before I was 2. That was in 1955, in my 2 yr old mind, there was no such thing as military, but there were stewardesses, and they sure were pretty, and smart, and NOT tied down with kids. And it wasn't until I was 4 that I didn't want kids, but I sure did like flying.

I thought if you wanted to travel you joined the military *LOL* I'm not cut out for that, I'd take being a stewardess anyday..... well ok prior to 9/11 anyways

At one point in my life I thought it would be so cool to be a radio DJ but it was nothing I ever pursued nor do I think that it was something that I was destined to do anyway even though I love music so much. I never really had any passions but about 10 years ago I learned how to make jewelry and really enjoy that and am able to make some money from it, but more important I love that I can create something, have fun doing it and someone else loves it enough to buy it. That makes me feel really good.

My mind has changed so much over the years. I wanted to be a nurse at one point but was afraid of watching someone die. Now I am focused on becomeing a teacher. I want to work with kids.

I never thought of that aspect about being a nurse. I was thinking of not a teacher but a speech therapist/teacher in school but my own kids drive me nuts how am I to deal with other peoples children?

I've always wanted to build stuff - I never liked dolls and loved LEGOS! Though I was never really creative about the stuff I built from legos - I just built 'em taller than any of my playmates. When I got to elementary school - I told everyone I wanted to be a nurse just like my mother. I didn't really know what that entailed at the time. When I got to high school is when I figured I wanted to become a Civil Engineer or an architect. Before I graduate high school - I thought architecture is for artists and Civil Engineering is for the non-artist. I took the Civil Engineering route - and here I am, on my way to studying for the P.E. license (Professional Engineer = P.E.).

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a doctor. Whenever I was asked to say infront of the class, I was firm of what I want. But education is costly. Not everyone could afford, reason that I could not go to college immediately after highschool and landed on a job to help my family. But when the chance came, I went to college and took up nursing. Although not the kind I have always wanted, nursing is quite related to it and I am happy. At times, I still think of pursuing a medical degree, but there are already a lot of factors to consider. I am 25 and am going to marry soon. I might not have much time for school since I would have different and new roles- as a wife and mother. I have learned from my mentor, " Aim as high as the sun, you may not reach it, but you can fly higher than you never aimed at all". Thank you. Happy mylotting!

that's a great quote, thanks sharing it. You are right taking on different roles including those of your job can be alot on a person. Yet another reason for me to contimplait going back to school, not only paying for it, finding something I like to do to try for a degree again and also be something that has a demand in our area.

I wanted to be an astronaut and made the mistake of talking about it so I got teased mercilessly. I ended up changing schools to get some peace, my family had to move because it got so bad. That was the 60's and early 70's when things like that were considered ridiculous. You have the most important career in the world--shaping our children into secure, loving, capable and reasonable adults. Until you decide what your second career should be, take pride in what you're doing because there's no job more important, more difficult and heartbreaking yet more joyous and rewarding than motherhood!

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a policewoman. I remembered playing police and thief with my neighbor and cousin and friends but I was always the thief at that time. But I never really tried to pursue that career. I guess that was only a childhood dream.

Well, let me recollect, hm yes, Initially at lower class I wanted to be an army soldier. But then, as I grew up I realized that I had more interest in computers and wanted to be a computer guy(something to do with computers). Now in my college, I have take up computer science and engineering, I wish to work for a company initially but I have greater plans after that. I was also in a confused state just as you are, but as most people say 'Be firm in what you want'. Have a good day :)

When I was in primary school,i'd like to be a painter because my teacher said i drew well. But it's really difficult to be a famous and outstanding artist if you are not so gifted. And i thought i wasn't chosen by Muse. And then i dreamed of being a singer because i like singing. But i realize singing is a thing and performing is another. I don't think i belong to the stage. And after that i'd like to be a teacher. I love teaching little kids, they are cute and pure. But i still have to practise my speaking because i'm not eloquent yet. I also want to open a restaurant because i like cooking very much though i'm not professional. Now i'm studying English in university in Shanghai, so i'm trying to be a interpretor. I don't know how many of my dreams will be realized. But i'll try, after all, the meaning of life is pursuit .

I wanted to be a doctor up until the 10th grade so I chose a health sciences class. That was the last of me wanting to be a doctor. The truth is I love business and marketing. That is why I went out and got a business degree, besides I didnt want to do 8 years of schooling.

I wanted to be a writer. Younger teenage years I wrote lots of poems. One of them won a contest. Not sure what happen to that idea. I like what I do now and would not trade it for the world since this obviously is what was intended for my life, but I still dream of having my own restaurant. I love to cook and create my own recipes.
