How to space out cigarrettes?

My dad is a smoker. ALong with others in my family. But I am here to talk about my dad. He smokes way too much in my opinion. My dad only gets a disability check at the bigginning of the month. Which he uses for bills and then groceries. Well I have been buying his cigarrettes. And when he goes threw more then a pack a day and cigarrettes are practically five dollars a pack its a little fustrating. I am most likely spending as much as i do on gas. I told him he needs to space them out. Does anyone have any kind of tips on how he can space them out? Gum doesn't work so any other ideas? Thanks
