accessories wanted for power wheel chairs

My Husband trying out a power chair - This was taken at the place where you can get power chairs, etc. These are loaned out free or charge to whomever qualifies.

My husband finally got his power chair or motorized wheelchair. It was rather utilitarian, in that it was a loan from the health care of our government and it has to be returned when he dies or needs a different one. The trouble is that when we go shopping. I know there are probably baskets for the Jazzy, or other name brands, but I mean if one is in those motorized wheelchairs and picks up some groceries where can he put them? Yesterday we went and bought a present for my son and his future bride for their wedding and it was heavy. It would be easier if there were baskets for the motorized wheelchairs. I know there are baskets for the walkers, but my husband cannot use the walker except for a few inches. So does anyone know if there are carryalls for motorized wheelchairs? I am talking about carrying heavier things home, such as things that would be heavy if you lugged them in a bag but not big enough to have delivered. Things such as mixmasters, small vaccum cleaners, coffee makers, small grills, etc.

Try this link, we get lots of things from here for my son's extra chair. http://www.edmond-wheelchair.com/mobility_scooters.htm, they are cheaper than alot of the places that I have found.

They probably have them. I just am a practical type who thinks that it would be easier to have the care giver put a basket on the back instead of lugging a granny cart around or the guy in the wheelchair wanting to keep his stuff with him instead of leaving it at home.

Thats great he has a power cair now to use. I hope you can find a basket for it, I would imagine there must be something like that. Have you ever thought about hooking a wagon on the back of it, maybe with a rope or something. That would be handy when you go to the store, you can pull your purchase home.

It would seem rather silly and since my husband is steering it with a joystick, it would rather difficult when going over the railway track. It would have to be something that hooks up on the back and does not reach the ground and goes over the motor.

you might look around for some kind of pack that could be hung on the chair - you might also check with a medical supply place

What we have been doing is putting the recyclable grocery bag on the handles at the back, but that rather limits what we can get for at a time. We can pick up some bread and milk and a few vegetables, but not enough for a week. So what usually happens is that I get someone to look after my husband and I go off with a friend of mine who has a car.

I do not were you can get them, but I have seen baskets and something like a large backpack on some here in Virgina. The Kroger store I go to has baskets on the front of theirs. I sure you should be able to get some- thing for your husband's. Have you looked online for accessories for wheel chairs. Have a blessed day.

I looked for accessories for the motorized wheelchair and there is not any. There are some for the scooters or the Jazzies but none for the wheelchair. I guess they expect you to drive around in a van or the granny shopping cart. I felt I needed one when we got that coffee maker.

I'm sure that they have accessories, you might have to check with the manufacturer because they are always trying to make those chairs more user friendly.

I hope they have them. It is just that the chair is a loaner as if my husband does have Als he will only have it for a year or so and then he will have to get the model that reclines. And I do not know if the basket will fit on both.

This is a good question, and something I've faced myself, using an old manual wheelchair, on a temporary basis. Yesterday I needed to go to the mall to get some things, and I had a heck of a time getting them home, because I needed to hold onto them,. but I also needed my arms to move the chair forward. AARRGGHH!!! I have to get some things on Friday, and I've asked Hubby to come with me to carry them. LOL
