I think nowsaday many people do check on the expiry date before they buy or consume the items. I am also one of them. However, I am very curious to know that whether will you still consume food or beverage items that have passed the exiry date??? For me, it will depend on what kind of food or beverage. For example, I definitely will not consume milk or juices that have expired. But I will still consume cereal, biscuit, snack, candy, chocolate or instant noodles that have passed the expiry date by 2 weeks provided that they are still in edible condition. Anything that passed the expiry date by more than 2 weeks, I will throw them away. So, what about you guys???

Hi there, well i always check the expiry date of every item i buy. Like the saying goes "prevention is better than cure" so i will look at it especially with foods. The doctor of my daughter said that in a medicine or cream we can still use it after expiry date until 3 months of expiration date. Well keep on mylotting.

It depends on what the item is and how long it has passed the expiry date. 3 hours ago, I just consumed a sachet of soya bean powder. I contemplated at the date stamped on the packet - 3 June 09. I was hungry and constipated. I go ahead thinking it kills two birds with a stone. I consumed it. It tasted ok and I just had my dinner.

definitely not....I would not consume any thing which has passed it expiry date...it is very dangerous to eat such things....In fact you should inform the seller to stop selling foods that has crossed its expiry date...some child or some one may risk their life unknowingly....

Our government in Singapore deal very seriously with stores that still sell expired items. Beside a heavy fine, the name of the stores will be published in all newspapers to shame them. I will always check on the expiry date of items before I buy or consume them. For ttems past expirey date for a few days in the home, I will check carefully on the condition of the items before consuming. Cheers =))

I always check the expiry date on anything and everything. I will never consume milk, juices or medication after expiry date. Too risky per me. These are the only things that come to mind at the moment. Other things, well if its just past the expiry I would check if it has any fungus visible to the naked eye and only then eat it.

If it has crossed the expiry date a few days then i will consume that item.If there is taste in the food item i will still consume it.If the cereal or beverage is not tasty then i will throw it out.Actually it is not good to eat foods past expiry date.We need to check the expiry date of the product before buying it.Once i bought a product that passed just two days an expiry date.

Hello there, sorry for my late comment. I was not feeling well for the past few days....don't worry....it is not because I have eaten expired food items.....lol...I will not eat expired items like medication, juices and dairy products. But for dried products, usually I will check on the look and smell before tasting a bit to see the condition. So far, I have not been sick from eating expired foodstuffs.

I try to watch the dates on everything i buy. Grocers are not suppose to leave anything on the shelf after the date expires but they do. When i worked in a convenience the delivery guy for milk said it would usually be good a wekk after the date expires. I have made bread w/it but try to use it up before that happens. LIVING alone it's hard to do sometimes.

For my case, my hubby is always the one who reminded me which of the food or beverage items will be expired in the next 2 or 3 days. He will also be the one to help to try to consume these items before they expired. I am not a very detailed housewife. I will just buy and buy and sometimes forget all about it. Have a great weekend ahead, dear =))

Hello, it depends on the item. As for the milk I was under the impression the date on the milk is the last day the store is able to see the milk. I drink the milk after what some people think is the expiration date . I'm not sure what country everyone is from but I live in the United States and it is a "sell by date" and not expiration date.I drink milk every day and I make sure I check the sell by date when I buy.I mainly buy daily products and check the sell by date. I rarely drink carbonated drinks so I don't have to worry about the date. The canned food dates I try to use before the sell by date. The meat I use my nose if I passed the sell by date by a day.I haven't had any problems.

In my country, we seldom have 'sell by' date cos it will cause much confusion. Most of the items sell in my country go by expiry date which should be the date the item can be safely consume. I am quite sure that we still can consume items that past the 'sell by' date. Take care and have a great day =))

Normally i wont, simply because i have a few times by accident not looked at the date and gotten terrible sick both from food, but also painkillers. This can not be recomendated to try.
In both cases i got within an hour fever of 40degrees C. and felt awful until my stomach went crazy and made me wormit. Sorry for the words, but just dont trust things which have expired.

I normally don't use anything that is passed the expiration date, especially if its milk. Though when frozen, milk sometimes stays fresh after the expiration date. I don't normally eat or drink anything passed the expiration date, unless it has been frozen, and not thawed and refrozen.

Most expired foods are still able to be consumed. The ones I would worry about would be meats and dairy such as milk and mayo because of food poisoning. You can tell also when meat is bad, I don't eat spoiled meat. My rule is when in doubt throw it out.
Depends on how far past the expiration date they are.....milk for example is sometimes good for up to a couple weeks past the expo date. Eggs are another good example, most are good for up to a month beyond the expo date.
Hot sauce in my experience can be good for years.....it really does depend on the food. No one good answer...hope that helped!
Your nose is always a good way to tell.....give the food a whiff and if it smells bad it probably is.

Yes yes, my parents are always able to tell whether is the expired items atill can be consumed by smelling and checking closely. I sometimes eat eggs that already past expiry date if I stored them in the fridge straight from the supermarket. So far, we never fall sick (touch wood) for eating expired items. Cheers =))

No! Of course no,, I really afraid it will make me sick. I even won't consume the food 1 week before the expiry date! It's for all food, either it's juice, milk, biscuit and every food. I think 1 week before expiry date, the food already dangerous for me,,hahaha.. Sorry if it's sounds over but it's the truth,,
So, are you still ok after consuming those expiry food? Don't you have any stomach ache after that?

I think it really depends on what it is. I know that when gum or candy are expired by any length of time, they get hard. If milk has not been opened and has been in the fridge, I will open it and smell it. If it doesn't smell sour, I will drink it. Most foods I will taste to see if a food is stale or otherwise taste bad before I will throw it away. Of course, if it has not been properly stored, I will throw it away without even tasting it. I know I found a cup of yogurt that didn't make it out of the trunk and I just put it into the garbage. I think that for the most part, those are "sell by" dates and the product should be ok for at least a little while after that, but that is just my opinion. Have a great day!!!

I agree with you on this topic. I definitely look at the expiration date prior to buying or consuming a product. Sometimes milk will last a little past the date on the carton, so I definitely smell it first to see if it's sour. For the most part, I get rid of it long before the expiration date because my fridge doesn't keep milk fresh long. The non-parishable items, I will be more apt to keep around a little longer. Food is very expensive now days and I don't think anyone of us want to waste our hard earned money.

I don't use foods that have passed the expiry date.
It is not good to consume foods that have passed the expiry date(especially ready made food) becoz it has got chemicals and preservatives like sodium benzoate that deteriorates after the expiry date and generating other toxic chemicals that can harm youtr health both physical and mental. so it advised not to use items that have passed the expiry date.
