What is wrong with the high school students nowadays? They have free education which provided by our government, and they don't even want to take on their education seriously. I think that they were just too spoiled. According to statistics, the high school graduates just dropped 17%. Many students just won't consider finish their high school years with a decent diploma. Why? Many there were many post - school training program out there, so they just don't consider their high schools are that important. What good will they do without a good education for their future?

Don't really know but we us Asians consider education as a major accomplishment. We think that it would help as get up from being poor to having good life without debt.

I can understand some students not finishing school right away if something comes up like a family issue or an unplanned pregnancy. I do think it is important for people to have a high school diploma. My brother has trouble with school. He will turn 18 in January and he is in 10th grade. I'm so afraid he will drop out and I've talked to him about it. He tells me he won't but I'm not entirely sure. I feel that if people do not get their high school diploma that they will not be able to make it in these tough economical times we are currently facing. Jobs are pretty scarce right now and if I was doing the hiring for a company, I would not hire someone without a high school education over someone who had one.

Let them be. After a few years of hard labor and earning nothing much, they will appreciate the value of a good education.
It's sad to see that many people give up on free education in some parts of the world, while many parents are struggling to put their children into tertiary education in other part of the world.
Sometimes when things are free, people just do not appreciate their values. I remember working part time to pay for my examination fees in national examination.

No offense, but maybe students in highschool don't finish because it's just too hard to get along in highschool. You don't know the kind of struggle it is to fit in. Especially if you don't know who you are. Maybe if you got rid of the bullies and made everyone on the level instead of the popular crowd, the punks and whatever else comes next. Let students be proud of their differences and have them show them off.

Hello clorissa this is checkmail and yes its a reality that many of the peoples among us are uneducated, even can't finish their high school, or even not yet joined to any schools. In majority the number of peoples not completing their schools is more in rural areas. The prime reason for it is the lack of economic condtion in our society. Many have to skip their studies and do some work for their livehood and to support the family. But there are also some peoples who are unable to adapt the education pressure and just skip the education.I really hate those peoples who skip their education by will just for some silly purspose, mostly lazy.

well, there are really people who do not see education as important. even if you provide them free education, there are always those who take it for granted. i've seen this too many times. a young teenager forsaking his education because of peer pressure. some are too lazy to go to school. some think that they do not actually need education. so join gangs and go with bad company. it's a sad fact of life. if only these misguided souls realized how important education is.

While I do agree that there are some bad apples, there are also personal circumstances that can pull kids out of school.
Many kids will quit school and work so their family has income. And in these days of a dwindling economy? Its essential to make any money you can. Kids will also work if their parent or guardian is disabled and needs help. Its a very kind thing to do.
Some people think the world is gonna end in 3 years, so why waste time learning? It sounds silly... but I've heard it.
Oh well. Theres always a chance to go back. Or earn your GED. Educational options have opened quite a bit over the years. We're very lucky for that.

I think education is up to the individual. Someone must decide if they want to stay in it or not. I do think the education system needs to be changed for the better. It is not geared towards people's individual needs.

They are young and "dumb". They don't think about their futures and what getting that diploma can do for them. I think a lot of high school students just want to hang out with friends. A lot of them don't like people telling them what to do. I have my diploma and glad. Sometimes I wanted to quit, but my dad would have killed me.

Its not that they arent taking it seriously its just that they at that time believed that was best for their future and they have that option to drop out, who are we to judge? Finishing high school is not a good education, getting your masters is..., although your high school diploma is needed for most jobs these days its not essiental to get a job and they can always go back and get it later right? All i'm trying to say is that we dont know them and we cant rightly judge that 17% of dropped graduates without knowing them first, they could all support familys for all we know.

I know exactly what you are talking about! When my husband and I were looking for a house a few years ago when my stepson was 17, we passed up a house I really liked because it was in the wrong school district for him to finish his last year of high school. We bought a house in the correct district that was a real fixer upper because it was all we could afford. We have no money to do the fixing up. Anyway, the kid turned 18 6 months later and dropped out with a semester to go.
Now he is 22 and unemployed. He has part of his GED but just can't be bothered to go take the constitution test to finish it. I am just so frustrated with his behavior.
He just doesn't seem to get it. He is starting to somewhat now. He has no money and I am sure not going to give it to him. He is an adult and better start acting like one.
Teenagers are just plain stupid nowadays.

lot of studnets now dont really see how important education is anymore. many of them are spoiled, or they think they can just live with their parents' house the rest of their life. additionally, they think all those government programs will help keep them living.
frankly, these people are just a liability to our education system. they are the reason that we put so much money into getting these studnets to graduate that the students that acually want to study are forced to pay out of their own pockets.

You are taking about finishing High School! Well I never started it. I stayed home and helped with the farm work. My Dad bought me a car and gave me 10 dollars a week. I always had a nice car and money in my pocket. That was 1951! My God where have the years gone? I've been illiterate all my life, having missed High School, and all that! Sad isn't it? I never learned a trade or anything. Damn! what a wasted life! I can't remember my future - maybe I never had one ~
