I don't know what you think about this but I want to know if it's acceptable that you smile at strangers because I know some people who would react negatively when a stranger smiles at them. They think that the stranger is weird or worse, he's crazy! But I believe we should share our smiles with everyone. A smile is contagious. It can make others smile too. And you'll feel lighter that way. So how about you, what is your point on this?

We can smile at strangers with respect to the place and time. We cannot smile at a person we encounter when we feel smiling at him will make some bad impression about us in his mind. If we see a person regularly when we are going to office or somewhere, we can smile softly provided he is decent and not suspicious in any way.

Quite often when out walking if a passer by makes eye contact with me I will smile and wish them a good day. 9 out of 10 times I get a smile and the same response back. Takes no time at all to pass on a smile and usually that smile is passed on again and again and again.

I smile at everyone. Especially when I am in a good mood. Like this morning its friday and I am happy for the end of the week so I am going to smile. I am going to show my good mood. I notice when I smile as well others tend to smile. But when your in a bad mood and your showing it people tend to be affected by it and I have noticed it both in my moods and others.

I suppose it would depend on the way they smiled. If they smiled with crazed eyes, I would probably think they were a very strange or weird person.
But if the smile seems slight and natural, then I wouldn't neccessarily think they were crazy. I have actually received smiles of strangers, and my immediate reaction is to smile back. So for me at least, a smile is contagious.
I think it is the emotions behind the smile that effects our reaction.
