Hi, so I was checking some site where you can do work and get paid and started to see some projects that required the creation of accounts on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites, they ask for a lot of them, even 1000. One point from the task is "must upload a profile image. the images need to be of actual people. you can get photos from myspace, facebook, flickr, gravatar, etc" and "-must enter names into profile area. names must sound legit and match their username created on ****, such as jennifer bryant, joseph williams, etc. use a female name with a female profile picture and a male name with a male profile picture."
I couldn't believe what I was reading! And the most surprising is that on such jobs many people bid to work on them. So I am assuming that such things are really happening. But I still cannot understand what is the use of such account creation. Maybe someone here can enlighten me.
Thanks

Fake social networking sites accounts are normally used for two reasons. One or both apply.
1) To boost up rating and ranking. The fake accounts are used to create an illusion of the perpetrator having many friends or followers. This in turn attract other members to ask for friendship or be followers. The perpetrator gains the trust of many other members.
Check the date of joining and activities carried out by the 'friends' or 'followers'.
2) To run a scam. With a photo and profile it makes it easier for the perpetrator to gain trust. There are many scams, including those related to money making, and requests for an intimate relationship.

Many IP addresses are dynamic, meaning they change whenever users get connected to the Internet. The workers have to restart their modem if they want to change their IP address.
Many IP addresses are shared, so the investigators use other approaches to track someone. One of it is the Machine Address Code, which does not change even if we reintalled the OS.

well that entails a lot of work. to create 1000 accounts and for each one you have to change the IP takes a lot and lot of time. Thanks for your explanation.

Thanks for the info! I believe this is still illicit to do I wish the internet was more secure on this aspect and that some sites would let you upload a photo and then it cannot be copied by any means. Have a nice day

Oh I know exactly what you are talking about. I was a member of a Freelancing site where jobs from various fields would be posted. From legal to programming to data entry to medical transcription to what not.I went into the Data entry section, out of curiosity. What I saw shocked me. I was seeing exactly what you said.
There were also these Jobs for creating 1000 gmail accounts or 2000 yahoo mail accounts etc. I was wondering who on earth would do it. Then I saw all the bids. Wow!! It is so dangerous to take up jobs like these. In this day and age when there are so many cyber-crimes happening, if someone creates all these and these accounts are used for "wrong" stuff, IP will lead the law to the creators. Crazy how people take up these jobs.

yes of course, in fact in some of these jobs I saw one that said that after the creation of every facebook account one has to restart pc and in some others it was important to change the ip address. Personally i don't' know how that is done and does not interest me. I will surely not take up any of these jobs but am very saddened by how many illegal things are being done on the internet and who knows what they do with all these accounts!

Just because it is a easy task that everybody can do it. So the bid is really low. And this kind of task don't need any requirement. People only need to provide the same amount of account for the task provider, that's it. Although it is a dirty work, someone will bid it because they want to gain experence and comment on the freelancing website.
I am not sure why they need these much account, I was also wondering. But I don't care about it, that is not what I want to do.

Good! I think as our friend said here if they do something illegal your ip may be traced and from what I hear in the news the cyber police trace people by their ip address. It made me realize that social networking sites aren't safe at all. We put up our photos and say what we do in our lives when it seems people are stealing your profiles.
