Luckily for me, my loved ones don't have bad breath and I don't have to tell them anything.

It depends on who it is. If it is my mom or my boyfriend or some of my cousins, i may just make a joke about it. As long as it is someone i am close to, i have no problem with it. If it is someone I do not feel as comfortable with, I'll pretend like i think it might be me. I'll just be like "oh, it kinda smells like bad breath. Maybe it's me" and ill do the "breathe in your hand" thing. Then i'll be like "hm.. wierd. My breath smells fine.." It gives them the opportunity to check theirs without feeling too wierd. I have noticed a lot of them won't say anything, but after i turn and do something (again, usually i do it on purpose to give them a chance to do something without feeling awkward or on the spot) I'll turn back, and i smell minty breath and them chewing on a stick of gum or sucking on a tic tac. If they don't check i'll pop in a gum or tic tac and then be like "well, just in case!" and laugh or soemthing. Then i'll say "oh sorry, didnt even ask. Would you like one?" Usually these techniques work without hurting anyone's feelings. Hope I helped. Take care =]

i dont tell them that they need it, i offer them the gum/mint non-chalantly, and then if they refuse to take it, i let them know that their breath is really bad.
