What's your criteria for following people on Twitter?

Do you follow EVERYONE who follows you? As with everything else, I am a late Twitter bloomer. Hee hee. Signed up with an account months ago out of curiosity but wasn't interested in updating it or anything UNTIL a few days ago because of a new opportunity introduced by Social Spark to make money out of tweets. I figured it's an easy way to make extra money so I thought, what the heck. What have I got to lose. And so the search for followers commenced. After one and a half days and almost a hundred followers, I started thinking, should I follow everyone who follows me? Some of them are accounts made purely for the purpose of advertising products and/or services, so you can imagine the onslaught of ads on my page. But still, they are good for the numbers. What's your take on this? And while I'm at it, anyone interested in a 'follow-exchange'? I'm wahmaholic in there, by the way. Right now, I follow EVERYONE who follows me, a decision whose wisdom I will have to mull over in the coming days.

I have my twitter account set-up to auto-follow anyone who follows me, along with sending any new followers a welcome message.

RevTwt, perhaps? have not joined that yet. Maybe later when I see personal friends earning already. I've been a bit more cautious lately when it comes to signing up on sites.

I so have a simple criteria when accepting new friends on any type of social network. It seems today that a lot of social networks are out their now. We can find someone with similar interests online but far more importantly are you guys going to be friends even with similarities. My one criteria I use to add friends are a picture at least and a well filled out profile just because you know they are true active members are at least close to knowing they are active members. Then every month I would go through my friends list and remove anyone that I may not know because I really like to keep my social network online with people I know in real life because there is no reason to be friends with people that I don't even know about. They wouldn't benefit me in anyway besides telling people I "might" know everyone in the world Godbless

wow. i'm lazy that's why once you're in my list, you're there forever! but it's a very good thing that you still find time to 'weed out' those people not very close to you

That is nice that you have followers that much. I have a hard time making followers. I have invited friends to signup with Twitter and we exchange. But it seems that they are not that interested. I find Twitter and interesting site.

I guess you need to have a gang in twitter in order to enjoy this. I mean, if you don't even have sufficient friends in there, it is like talking to a wall. Unless you are Ashton Kutcher, then the world is interested to know what you are doing - wearing blue shirt, wearing shoes too small, not wearing boxer on Tuesday etc etc. Who cares about me, when they don't even know me? None. I have some who added me. Upon checking, they have already deleted me. They added me in hope that I add them in return. If I really have to add, then, I think, shallowly, I will only the cute ones. Sorry, but that is one category I will choose. ;p

fair enough. i would've also stuck to that principle if not for the fact that i'm already taken and very much in love! and i'm also a fan of ashton. yeah. it's that way with celebrities. oh well. there are downsides to being famous people as well, so there. hee hee

I follow people who are interested in my kind of websites, and people who just making interesting response! Also, i really love the dell deals and all those exclusive Twitter only offers from big companies. What i also love is following some celebrities, like Nigahiga, who just recently signed up and received almost 100 000 followers!

I do not really visit too often, but I do realise it has great potential in many different avenues. It has changed the way certain events are depicted, the Iran elections recently are a great indicator of this. I am sure there will be many more situations like this happening in the future with a bigger impact even. I follow musicians I like mainly, it interests me to get a glimpse of their world, even if it is only within the constraints of 160 characters. I am not a fan of people who are there just to try and sell you products. I have no problem with people promoting certain things, but they need to give me a good reason to follow them. Purely spamming is a backwards policy which will be negative to the product on the whole, even if some leads are generated in the process. I do not follow everybody who follows me as I do not want to condone the spam accounts.

very well said. if i may ask, who are the musicians that you follow? john mayer was the first celebrity i added on my list. he is often seen as full of air (arrogant and proudly contemptuous), but i love his humor just the same.

Hi Kay...no, I do not follow anyone just because they follow me, but rather follow those with similar interests or whose work I admire. Karen

I'll automatically follow people I know IRL. Those people randomly adding, I sometimes add back depending on their tweets. It it's quite interesting, or has the same nature as my interests, I'll follow.
