If you could only have one breed of dog EVER! Which one would you choose?

Do you like big dogs, little dogs, or medium size dogs? In the house, or outside dogs? Long hair or short hair? Tell me about your first dog. Tell me why you like dogs better than cats? Do you have to have a pure bred dog or would you take a mutt? What would you do if your dog bit someone and had to be put down? Basically, tell me all your thoughts on DOGS! Ones you've had, and one you'd love to have if you could.

OK, first of all I don't like dogs better than cats, I'm a cat person. But I like medium sized, mellow dogs. Little hyper yappy ones annoy me, sorry Chihuahua lovers. All my dogs have been mutts and I'm just fine with that. Mind have all been indoor/outdoor dogs. The first one (from when I was a kid) was a dachshund mix named Pandora. We figured some man must have abused her because she always cringed when a man got anywhere near her or she heard a man's voice.

I like both cats and dogs. I like cats because they are not so needy as dogs. I like dogs cause they will listen....lol.

And when a cat gives you attention...you know it's cause they love you...or they're hungry!

Hi, debrak! I love all dogs and cats, but I'm very allergic. Now that Bo has gone to the White House, for the first time, I'm thinking about looking for a hypoallergenic dog. It never occurred to me that there was such a thing. I think I should wait until I retire, though, because I'm not home enough to be a good pet keeper now. BTW, what are you doing up so late? What am I doing waking up so early? Hmmm....

I work 3-11 shift. When I get home I like the quiet and the peace. Good time to think. lol I can't sleep right away...got to unwind. Poodles do not provoke an allergic response in most people either. I didn't know the First Dog was hypoallergenic. What kind is it? I've not even seen a picture of Bo. lol

He's a Portuguese water dog -- a rare and quite expensive breed. If poodles aren't a problem, I'll probably get one! Appreciate the tip!

The english bulldog.... They are the best ever. I have had alot of breeds and there is nothing like them they are great with kids and will never leave your side. Sometimes that can be a bad thing. lol

I love dogs. They are smart and can communicate with you in a way that you do understand what they are trying to tell you. I would love to own a Yorkie. The breed that doesn't get over 5 lbs. I adore puppies and this way I would feel like I would always have a puppy. I have been told from several different people that they are very smart and loveable. I wish I could afford one. Thanks for the discussion.

Have you tried the shelters? I'm sure they would have something close to a Yorkie if not a full blood Yorkie. My sister in law loves that breed too. She has four of them. They are very cute and loyal to one person, I have heard. Great pet for someone living alone. Call the shelters and see what you can find out. They'd take your name and hold one for you when one came in, I'm sure. Happy puppy hunting!
