No I do not use a dictionary while posting or responding here.I would not boast that I am very strong in English but then I do understand everything without the help of a dictionary.May be this is because I have done my schooling from an English-medium school. Also I read a lot of books so the flow comes naturally.I would suggest that you start reading books and if you come across a new word, look up the meaning in the dictionary and then make a small note of it somewhere so that you can memorize the meaning. That way you can learn really fast. All the best to you.

If I know that what I am going to write will just be a few sentences I tend not to bother and rely on my own ability to spot any mistakes. But if I know that I am going to have a lot to say I will open up MS Word and type up whatever I plan to say in there first so I can spell check it and pick up on any grammatical errors before I copy and paste it on here.

That is a very good point about an option for those with under 500 responses. Although I have never used it I do know that there is an add-on for the Firefox browser which allows you to spell check anything you type into boxes on web pages such as this one. I am sure there would be an equivelant for IE users and would benefit those members who wish to spell check their comments/discussions before posting.

I don`t have use the dictionary. He he he. Just kidding. Everyone for whom English is not the mother tongue will have to use a dictionary while surfing or participating in social forums like this. So what I thought I installed a World web dictionary in my computer itself. All you have to do is to select the word and then press ctrl + alt + w. The meaning of the word with all its parts of speech, origin, derivatives, and possible usage will come as such. It is much better than a normal dictionary where you have to search for the word. Try this. It is awesome.

It has happened very rarely that I have used one but not usually.
Maybe I should as I have forgotten many English words now that I do not use English every day any more.

i use it now and then. even tho i've been reading and writing for a good 55yrs. i still forget the spelling now and then of different words. so if its close by and im making a discussion i often reach for it then.

Hi there!
I use the online dictionary. I use the one with the translations or equivalent words in other dialects or languages. I am a Filipino and there are words in my native tongue that I don't know how to say in English and the dictionary does a lot of help for me. I am continuously learning while having fun here in mylot.
Ciao!

No, I do not use the dictionary while mylotting. When there are words I do not know, I usually can guess from the context. For my own discussions, I can but use simple expression within my vocabulary. But for young people who is on the way to a successful career, it is better when possible to use the dictionary and ,what is more important, to use them by yourself, so that your active vocabulary could extend soon.

I don't use a dictionary while posting discussions and comments here on mylot. Although I am not very good English, I can say that I can understand and can write simple english.. But of course, I am just a human. I know that I use wrong words sometimes or commit mistakes in grammar..

Hi there,
First of all there are more than 10 lac words in English Language and it is not possible to know their meaning just to get things done let alone the uses of the phrasal verves and all figurative use of the words and phrases and sentences. This surely call for your use of the dictionary from time to time. I am a regular dictionary reader, I mean I just open the dictionary and do time passing learning some new words.

hi shibham! i'm not a native english speaker. english is just our second language here but i do not find myself needing a dictionary while mylotting. i haven't really encountered a word that i didn'tunderstand except for those slangs and jargons. maybe because i'm very exposed to speaking with americans and english is our medium of instruction here. so to answer your question, nope, i don't need to be using a dictionary here.

Oh yes, dictionary is my constant companion when I am composing a discussion in mylot. I believe many here still look up to dictionary to help them in their writings even to those native speakers of this language. English is a beautiful language but not as easy as many think especially to us whose mother's tongue is not English. Thanks to the English dictionary which has enabled many of use to come up with good writes comparable to the native speakers.

I don't use dictionary while responding to discussion here in mylot. But i do have my spell-check ON so that i can identify the typo errors and also change the spellings if they are wrong. :)
I don't think that people here write flowery English so i do not refer to any dictionaries.

I tend to just spell it and use the word if it is mispelled. I usually find out how to spell it later when I research for articles. I was a queen bee in spelling so most of it comes natural. Wikipedia is good information for harder words.

Hi there shibham,
Yes, I also do also use a dictionary while I am myLotting. Sometimes I use a little paper book one that belonged to my late husband, it seems to help me a lot with proper spelling of words that I am not sure about. But the main source of a dictionary which I have been using lately and especially when I am commenting here at myLot, is dictionary.com. I always use it when I am unable to properly spell a word. And even if I'm NOT myLotting, I have been using it as well, to check out a new word. Because I enjoy learning about words with which I am unfamiliar.
Take care,
