Do you usually go to the restroom alone in a plane?

I normally do, but not until the incident occurred where I got locked inside the toilet! I couldn't undo the latch as it was stuck and when I tried many times it was broken. I called out hubby's name, lucky he was waiting outside otherwise I'd be all panicked hoping for someone to find me trapped inside the toilet! When I told the air stewardess about this, she gave me a dumb answer. She said the door was actually out of order and happened to a few passengers already... What???!!! I didn't make any further complain though. If hubby was not around at that time, I think I'd already shouted for HELP! What about you? What would you do? Have you ever experienced an inconvenience situation like this before?

I go alone. If anything does happen, I'll just press the panic button. Too bad that happened to you. If that were to happen to me, I'll write a complain letter immediately. They should have warned that the door is faulty and not create panic in the passenger just like that..

I was going to write a complaint letter, but after we got back from our vacations, it just happened to slip my mind. Maybe I wasn't observant enough because I never knew there was a panic button inside the toilet.

Oh my, luckily your hubby was outside, else you really panic inside. Which airline is that? the door got problem still not repair it and continue to let passengar to use. What if an old age was inside, sure it is not convenient and helpless for them. The air crew also seems don't care about it very much. They should put a sign there OUT OF ORDER, so that no other passengers got caught in the restroom. If no one is outside waiting to be use, do shout, kick and knock hard the door. I'm sure anyone pass by will hear you. I don't realised there is a panic button, if got that, do use it to call for help. For me, I usually went to the restroom alone, knowing that the narrow space at the aisle, normally no one will follow if they not intend to use the toilet. Thanks for sharing your experience. Happy Mylotting!

Hi, Lemonjude! Yes, knowing that hubby was waiting outside I could at least informed him that I could not open the door. So, he did try to help me from outside as well. It was our low cost carrier. I am sure things like this would not occur if the air crew was alert and efficient, in fact, she acted like it was just a normal thing. I did not realize there was a panic button, too. The next time I fly, I will make sure to be more observant he he... I agree with you that it is not convenient when there are so many people walking about the aisle, but it just happens that each time I want to go to the restroom, hubby also needs to relief himself.

My toddler son was asleep in the seat next to me in the plane. I tip toed off to the rest room. I was alone and it would have been awful if the door had got jammed. Nobody would be there to care for my son. I made a few quick trips on the 12 hour flight to the rest room. The airline you went on should have put an 'out of order' notice on the rest room door. Perhaps a passenger would shout "help" not his or her cries wouldn't be heard. An old lady that is weak might get really frightened in that situation. The cabin crew were negligent in your situation.

Yes, they should and apparently I did mention about the 'out of order' sign to her, but she only gave me a smile! I couldn't recall if she ever did apologize for the inconvenience though. You have a strong point about one's condition. Imagine how the situation can only get worse! Anyway, thanks for your respond.

I am not sure if it's a wise idea to mention the name here. I must say that the service is not consistent at all.

Dear corrycrystal, Thank God your husband was around... Btw, what airline is that and to where..is it a long hauled flight? I normally go alone to the airplane restroom. Most of the time at peak hour (means a long queue will be waiting). If really stuck, bang the door and ask for help. From what I read, Submerryn mentioned that there is a panic button that we can pressed for help. I totally forgot about it I prefer to sit near the aisle, it is more convenient to go to the restroom. But my husband normally love to sleep or watch movie. I think he would not realise that if I am stuck there .. I think still the 'panic button' is better or called for 'Help'. We need to let other passengers know, if not another victim... at least can help each other to 'care' for the door if not locking... Cheer and happy myLotting...

Hi, Irene! It's our local low cost carrier, a flight to Manila. Yes, I would bang the door if hubby was not outside. I am actually not sure myself whether there is a panic button inside the restroom (??) Well, I never did notice about it... but yes, it is more practical than to bang the door... Hubby and I prefer to sit at the emergency seats though because they are more spacious, but of course, they are built that way he he... Oh, after the incident I don't think other passengers would go into the restroom again because the latch was already broken unless the air stewardess did something about it.

Sounds like a really bad experience for you! But for me I go to the restroom alone in a plane. I think it would be weird to ask my friend/family member to come to the bathroom with me. And if I ever did get an experience of being locked up in a bathroom, I think I would bang on the door, or bust way out somehow. But then I would cause a commotion and people would think im crazy for the rest of the flight.

Hi, eyeronik! Yeah, it was a bad experience. I will only ask my hubby because he understands, so he will just wait outside. I don't think I will ask my sis or mom to come to the restroom with me because they might think it's funny hehe... Sometimes, I will make sure the door is working. If there's no other way and they can't hear me shouting, I think I would bust my way out as well haha... Let the people think what they want to think, as long as I am safe. :)
