Hi friends,
Some people say ragging is a menace and should be banned. Some others say ragging is the first step towards preparing the students to take on the real world. Whatever it is, today ragging is banned in Colleges. But was it necessary? What is your opinion about ragging? Have you ever been ragged? Have you ragged someone? Share your thoughts and experiences about this.

Hi, I do not think ragging introduces the real world to anyone but in fact It paves the way for many unwanted happenings. I would suggest ragging must be banned in all colleges. I have not seen any guys who have been ragged feel happy for that. So, do not encourage ragging in any form.

This is the topic that is going on for this year 2009. Everyone says that it should be banned. In some institutes the seniors don't understand that ragging is a sort of mental torture for students who aren't of the easy-going type. And these type of students are only those mainly ragged. You see, you must be knowing 'PSG CAS, cbe'. A student(junior) was ragged by his seniors, not asked to sing or dance or something, he was asked for money once he gave them, the next time they asked a bigger amount and he refused so they hit him(thrashed) and he had several injuries. One of his eyes were so damaged that the doctors report said he might be blinded on that eye, don't know what happened after that. the outcome was, the senior guys were dismissed and banned from joining any college.
You see ragging is something, that brings that should be banned, even in my college, we had a different case, the arts students tried ragging the engineering 1st years and guess what, they were caught and expelled on the spot by the principle. they were given their TC right after 20 minutes. Serious actions eh, that is the only way to ban ragging or that's what the institute says. And i don't know, but I do feel it is right.
I should mention something else, some seniors in our college are good guys, they sort asked called(invited) us to their rooms and made us sing, dance, mono-act but they did accomany us, they said this was just socializing, an introduction ha ha, that was something i liked and didn't expect he he :)
have a nice day :)

Personally, I don't think that ragging is about preparing students to take on the world. We have heard and seen many children who have lost their lives because they were ragged badly. Some students are very sensitive and it becomes traumatic and embarrassing for them. Not to mention the fact that sometimes students take ragging beyond what it is meant to be. They can be extremely cruel. I know of a college student, who was molested by a group of boys as a part of ragging. He was so afraid that he went into a shell and was not talking to anyone, as the seniors had threatened him.Can you imagine his mental agony?
I have been ragged but it was not a big deal, really silly stuff and it made no difference. But now a days when I hear such horrific stories about ragging, I cannot say I support it.

physical ragging should be avoided completely in the campuses.
Some sort of ragging should that too for the good. But what we see is raggin turning into violence and physicaly ragging. Many lives have been deeply affected due to this. Now there are strict rules for this. The prevention of raggin act even prohibits asking names to the students.
