I don't know how many of you have heard of astral projection, but it is a topic of interest to me so I thought I'd share what I know. Astral projection occurs when you sleep. Your astral self separates from the body and this is why we dream. It is possible to maintain control these experiences by focusing on one thing at the point of sleep. When this happens you will maintain awareness and be able to explore the astral realm.
Being able to astral project requires that you have the ability to relax, focus and remember your dreams.
Relaxation
Lie down. Tense your muscles one bye one starting with your feet and moving up. Listen to relaxing music if it helps. Try to let the stresses of the day go and just think calming thoughts.
Focus
Focus on a single object such as a candle for an extended period of time. Think only of this object. Close your eyes and try to picture the object in your mind. This is a type of meditation that will help improve your focus.
Remembering Your Dreams
Lie still when you wake up. Allow your dreams to come to you one at a time. Write down every detail you can remember.
When you have practiced all of these you are ready to attempt astral projection. Use the relaxation techniques you have learned to bring yourself into a state of complete relaxation. Close you eyes and try to focus on one thing such as your heartbeat or picture an image in your mind. Continue to focus and you'll enter something known as the vibration state. You'll feel a strange tingly sensation all over. Ignore this and continue to focus. At some point you'll cross over from the conscious to the unconscious and you may find yourself standing next to your sleeping body. Don't be afraid, strong emotions such as fear will pull you back into your body.

That's awesome you're into Astral Projection, I'm really interested in this subject as well.
From what I understand, you're not astral projecting when you're dreaming, but it's similar.
If you're sleeping, and you have a dream, you're just dreaming however technically it's the same effect. When you realize you're dreaming, and you can take control of yourself inside the dream, you're having a lucid dream.
Astral Projection is where you go straight from an awake state, directly into the Astral Realm, or dream world. It's all technicalities as to what you're actually doing.
I've tried a lot to succeed in Astral Projection, but I haven't had any luck. I have had some progress though, so I have hopes that I may be able to project soon. Have you ever projected before?

I actually used astral projection techniques to help me sleep when I was younger. So, once by accident I did astral project and freaked myself out. I didn't know what was happening and I screamed and woke up. Since I learned what astral projection was I did manage to project one time, but it is very difficult.

The same thing happened to me the first time I had a lucid dream. I was in the dream, but once I realized I was dreaming, looked around and saw a whole world around me, it surprised me back awake. It's a really cool subject though, I love learning about Astral Projection.
Apparently there are other realms you can project too as well. I believe it's 7 realms altogether. We exist in our everyday lives in the physical realm, dreams are in the astral realm, and there are several more. I know one of them is supposed to be the Buddhist concept of Nirvana.

I too interested in this topic, it is impressive indeed astral travel, which as you say is the utilization of our astral body, which is just one of the seven bodies of man, in fact our other bodies need to develop and go according to stages of life, begins to develop each of our bodies every seven years, but not always fully developed, so we have astral travel costs because we do not track that body. to this the gnostic called it "existential bodies of the being".
