Why it is called as "The USA" and India as not as "The India"?????

Dear Harjotdoad, Do let me know when you got the answer from other fellow myLotters. I am curious too! The United States of America (USA) The Netherlands The Philippines . . and the lists goes on! I guess it sounds nicer that way, or perhaps it means a combinations of a many states, islands, lands came together as one. India, already one by itself...hmmm... I am curious too, do keep me posting on it and do keep in touch!

I've actually thought about this before. Other countries have beautiful names that have some sort of deep meaning. The United States of America is more of a description than a name. I wonder why we couldn't think of something better.
