my laptop just came back after a week in the shop, supposedly being fixed. well, at least windows, etc., loads now, but as you can see, my keyboard is messed up...cannot use shift key, etc, and after paying well to have it fixed. it will have to go back in monday.
do you get antsy or anxious when you are without your pc and when it comes back still not fixed right, do you deal well with the stress what have you done to keep occupied when you are without a pc
this bothers me mainly because i work online! there are many things i enjoy and do when the pc is laid up, but i do worry about the lag in time for my work

Hi Karen!
It is really bad that your laptop has not yet been fixed appropriately or the way you would have liked it. I know it can cause lot of tension. We, now a days, depend a lot on our PC and without it, we become handicapped. Had I been in your situation, I would have also felt tense and would have cursed the man, who would have rectified my PC/laptop.

Hi Deepak...cursing was a temptation! I find it hard to have paid the money and still not have it functioning up to par. I found many other things to do without the pc, but...I was very concerned about getting so far behind in my work. I do believe as soon as I can afford it, I will by a "back-up." That would be sensible, since much of my livlihood depends on a computer and internet access.

This is so offputing!! I was wondering about your absence. Now i know but then the fact that it still needs more attention is bit dis heartening. that means less of you and i just cannot bear that. I can understand what you are going through for there must be important stuffs that you need to settle on internet. Get a new key board if that helps and come back soon. I miss you Karen.
Lots of love

Hi Mim...I missed you too...very much! And yes, so much to tend and I could not. It was such a letdown when it came back still not working properly. It is a laptop or I'd definitely just replace the keyboard. I am slowly plugging away here, but the shift key works sometimes; sometimes not, and it is as though it's had some kind of keystroke shortcuts programmed into it. I go to type a word or punctuation, and up pops my buddy list or some document out of thin air or a whole phrase deletes itself! Ackkkk! But it's better than nothing. I'll take it back next week. Hugs!

That must be awful Karen! Its difficult to change the keys in a laptop. Now I can understand your inconvenience. Hope it gets fixed soon. I am awaiting your full fledged come back. Lots of love and huggles.

Pat, I was soooo ecstatic when the repairman called yesterday to say it was finished, but so let down with whatever is going on with this keyboard and shift thing :( It makes typing anything such a slow process. Ack.

I just had this experience with my laptop. The place that I took it to be repaired kept calling me and telling me that the problem was that the computer had no memory. I told them that was impossible as I had been using it every single day. I finally picked it up and took it to an independent repair center and it was fixed in one day. I didn't realize how much I depended on it until I didn't have it. I went to the library every day so that I could get my email but I was only able to use the computer for an hour each day,

Hello Lauren, yes, it is the same at our library...such a small time allotment to do much work. I am glad yours is finally fixed. I may end up yet taking mine, also, to a different repair place.

Ugh! Summer before last I had a problem where my laptop suddenly went black. Just out of the blue it started doing this when I had it sitting on the bed. I suspected it was overheating though I knew computers could have a blue or black screen when they had serious memory issues. I knew I had plenty of free drive space so no biggie right?
Well it kept doing it and then one day the computer wouldn't boot up. After several restarts Windows still wouldn't load so I took it to Comp USA. They charged a fortune but they backed everything up to another (external) hard drive for me (which I purchased).
Got the computer home and everything seemed fine except for one thing. After a week or two the computer would go black again. It doesn't like to be above a certain temperature and even in an air conditioned room it will sometimes shut down, which is why I still think memory does play some part.
I was keeping the computer in front of this tower fan only I would be freezing! Especially during the winter, lol! A dew months ago I bought a little 5 inch fan that I position behind the computer that usually does the trick. I elevate it slightly in back to help the air circulate.
The things you have to go through...

It seems that certain functions that require more memory make it work harder and I guess it heats up faster. It drives me nuts. I need the cold version of a hot plate.

Hello Canellita. Wow, you have been through a great deal with your computer! I hope your fan keeps doing the trick without freezing you. It is so frustrating to try to work on one that keeps "conking out," especially since we work online a lot!
Do have a great weekend.

I have had this happen to me a couple of times. Our computer messed up so we sent it back to Compaq to have it fixed. They sent it back a couple of weeks later and it was still messed up so we had to send it back. My husband finally got it straightened out but it was stressful because I work online also. No computer means no extra money on my part.
Compaq even sent it back once with a few parts in the wrong place. Now when something goes wrong, my husband does what he can to fix it instead of sending it back. Luckily, when we did send it back, it was still under warranty so we didn't have to pay anything.
So sorry you are going through this. I hope you get it fixed soon!

Hi Cwilson...thank you for your encouragement. I am sorry for anyone who's had this kind of experience, but I imagine most of us have! Your ordeal with Compaq sounds like a real nightmare! I am glad it was eventually resolved and that your pc was still under warranty :)

Hello Sudha. Thank you for the kind words. Yes, I've come to depend a lot on my computer, especially for my daily work! And the irritation that comes when it's "broken" seems common! Soon, it will be fixed. Have a nice weekend.

Hello my friend PeacefulWmn9 Ji,
Well, I am not that much fond of PC, but my hubby is, he will work all the time possible and get irritated if PC is not working due to many factors. Above all, if it has been brought up after fixing, he will loose his shirt and make mockery of PC. He will call taht people who fixed at once and get it on right.
May God bless You and have a great time.

This happend to me a year back when my hard disk crashed.
I gave my PC to a local repair person. he promised to make it allright but after wasting 5 days he returned it back saying that he cannot make it right.
Such things make me go crazy when somebody tells us that they will fix it and they return it unfixed.

Oh! That is very sad. As a technician, I have never give my computer to shop. But one of my classmate tried to give her computer to a shop and fix the problems, they said it needed to be formatted, so she gave the money for formatting the laptop. Afterwards, they said it can't be formatted because of some problems unusually, unless she paid a little bit more for an original XP disc or buy a new harddisk. Finally I helped her solving all of the problems in a day with no cost.
If you are working with your computer, I think you better buy a alternative one. Hope you will get your computer soon and with all problem fixed.
Best luck myLotter=]
