What would you do if...

...your boss treated you unfairly? I was at a job for 3.5 years and loved it. My manager has always treated me unfairly. He recently though decided to demote me because he says I am not performing my job even though I am doing more than any other person in my position. I worked very hard to get where I was and overcame many obstacles. He always treated me like a very unintelligent person and favored many others over me. What would you do if this happened to you?

I think you should just contact the labor board about like one of the comments said. The labor laws in TN have changed so much, but when you contact the Labor Board they will investigate. Its difficult to fight, but if you are willing to fight it and take a stand then do so. If he can prove beyond a shaddow of a doubt that you were demoted because you weren't doing job like you were supposed to be doing then I would let it go. If he can't prove it and you were doing everything you were supposed to be doing then fight it.

yes I definately was doing everything I was supposed to be. Unfortunately he is unable to see that when he sits in his office all day. I think that in the state of missouri an employer can fire you with no cause. I'm unsure of the rules for demotion though

I think it would be good if went to fight it. but definately know what you're upagainst first. There was a girl I know that worked for one of the local hospitals and they tried to tell unemployed that they fired her for sexually explisent phone calls. Sorry about the mispelling. Anyways, she is knowing in the processing of determing if it would be right to sue the hospital. The account said that they would more than likely settle out of court and most of there settlements start at 100,000 and they settle out of court instead of going to court. They can't prove it but they keep saying it and keep avoiding to prove it when they try to meet to discuss it.

Two years ago,I finished my school life, and my first job is in a factory. My direct boss is only a high school graduate, she treat my very bad,and she always told the chairman some bad words about me.You know, some words were untrue, but times more, chairman believed it.The situation is very bad for me,and I really didnt know how to do.Finally,I have to quit,I cant face it,though its unfair. Now,I think I have some experience to face it,first, you should do your best about your work, secend, you can treat her better than before. That may difficult, but I think you can try to do it.She may feel guilt, may not.But you,you must feel happy, you are large-minded,arent you^o^

Unfortunately I chose to leave the company as a result of all this. I wasn't going to take a demotion I didn't deserve. If I had been slacking off, I would have understood but I had not been. I had been working harder than ever before. I had never treated my boss poorly, it was always the other way around

As hard as jobs are to come by these days, I'd swallow it and try harder to improve and still keep my eyes open for a better job.

Are you able to document these instances? I would have written up every instance where you were treated unfairly so that if it came up, you would be able to show what happened and maybe get some help. Is it a racial issue? Where do you live? I think I would have started out by telling people what had happened to me and putting everything in writing so that I didn't start blowing things out of proportion. I hope that you were able to find a job where your efforts are appreciated.

for me, I'd find another job, better job. I know you feel comfort with your current job. But what's the point of getting no credits to all the good things you done in that firm? I'd rather find a job that is more difficult than before, but been treated well by my superior. =)

So you got another job at a different place? You had quite a dilemma. If I loved the job as you did, I would agonize over whether to keep it. But if I was demoted, I would assume I'd have to take a pay cut. And I doubt I could afford living as I am with a pay cut. Plus, we all like to advance in our work place, so if I were demoted, it would appear that would never happen. I guess I'd pray about it, but unless God spoke to me specifically about it otherwise, I'd probably look for another job.

simplyforgiven, You must first check with your peers if what you claim is true and that you must be aware of your company's policy especially regarding staff benefits and infringement policies. When there is a dispute, you will need to know what is your country's established legal protocol to settle such disputes. A check with your local labor office and/or worker's union office should be able to address most of your doubts and equip you with sound advice on how to go about getting your redress. Last but not least, if you feel that you have been mistreated and do not want to go through the process of dispute settlement, then the least you could do is to be on a look out to go somewhere else. However, I do not think you will have a favorable testimonial from this company that you are leaving. Take care and have a nice weekend.
