I'm a new Mac user and I have been told that Macs are immune to viruses. Is this true?

Macs are not "immune" to viruses. However, they use a different operating system and so they are not as suseptable to viruses which are created to mess with windows based programs. So, althought they are not immune, they are safer in many ways!

lol! No, I am not an expert on Macs. I prefer Mac though I don't have one presently. I hope to have one again. I do think you need a Mac specific virus protection. Check Norton first. I am really not sure since I haven't had a mac in awhile. I consider myself bilingual! I can use a Mac or PC with equal ease!

Actually macs are not immuned to viruses. Infact, not even PCs. Although mac has a better security system than windows, but this doesnt make mac immune to viruses. The trick is that not much hackers make viruses for macs. 93% of internet users use windows and thats why, making viruses for macs means 13 times the chance of not hitting a computer. Are you understanding me.

No computer is immune to viruses. I myself have been a Mac user for about 3 years and my computer has been running fine. But even though there are less viruses on a Mac than on Windows I strongly suggest you be careful what you download on the internet. You never know what happens.

Hello friend,
It is not that Macs are immune to viruses. The thing is that since most of the users worldwide use windows, the attackers also try to attack windows most of the time, hence they write viruses for windows more than for Linux or Macs..
Therefore, Macs are relatively safe but then I am not sure if they are cent percent secure.

there are currently only 2 known viruses for macs. you can only get these through downloading illegal copies of iWork and Aperture i believe, though i might be wrong. as long as you are behaving yourself then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. my friend has 2 macs and no anti-virus software and he is fine.
