yeah kind of. It is a benefit we can apply for that we pay for through our taxes taken out of our paychecks. However you apparently have to be pretty bad off since i received a letter today saying we make too much money. Currently I am bringing home nothing and my wife brings home around $800/month. So i don't understand how we can live off that

yes, we have pretty much the same income as you since I was laid off, by the sound of it, but we also 'earn too much' to qualify...lol....ridiculous isn't it? Our rent is more than my husbands check!
I am actually going to a Workers food pantry tomorrow (they support workers who are struggling , or unemployed) as it is my only option this week, hopefully I will only have to do this once or twice.
I hope things go better for you soon.
