Many do it. when they are about to leave home for office or market or anywhere for considerably longer period they chant the name of the Lord.
Those on the driving seat are more prone to this. Why? do not you have the self confidence that you would drive or ride your vehicle well and carefully to avoid any accident or the like? Then what is the need to pray? It means you are timid are not you?
Please share.

Hi raj, Prayers has been a habitual affair for me like food is to our body. People have countless different reasons to pray and use a wide variety of methods. Prayer is nothing else then a sense of God's presence. I don't pray because I am holy, timid or what ever others view it but I pray because I have flaws, and need help with them. I pray everyday on my knees. And no matter how troubled I am I still find peace within my inner self. I believe the more we pray, the more we come to the heartbeat of God. Only if you have strong faith in the presence of God in our life.

Hi zands,
Here in this post I was not hurting any one's belief and practice but just wanted to know why people do so as most others do not do otherwise.
Yours and ours way of praying is same it seems. You join both the hands together and with the folded hands you pray, do not you.

I don’t know that prayer and being timid have anything to do with each other. Prayer is a personal thing. To me a timid person is someone who is somewhat shy, introverted; feint hearted perhaps?
I have the habit of saying a little prayer before driving off in my car. I have been doing this for years and so far my driving has been safe so I am not inclined to stop doing it because, unfortunately, I may be doing all the right things on the road but that doesn’t mean that every other driver is, so my safety is beyond my control to a certain extent, hence the need to pray.

Hi paula,
I feel the same way too. Prayers cannot be timorous by any sort of imagination .
We should be grateful to god that he gave us the power to chant his name.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi,
I chant god's name before i leave to work everyday, but its not because of fear or soemthing. Its like you want to have a converstaion with the almighty so that you have a good day at work. I want god to help me, and correct me if iam doing something wrong in life. Thats what we pray for, Its nothing timorous.
We need blessings of god and our parents to be something in life, and thats not timid in my views at all.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi tutul,
My point was not to belittle those who chant the name of God before they set out. It could be their habits or an obsession that every time they are out they remember the name of the almighty.

No, I am not, but of course I pray. I feel hesitant when applying work , that is the only time and when someone or I am in danger I became prayerful. But not all the time. I don't like to be like that, hopefully I am safe everyday! When I am riding a vehicle I say a little pray for safe transportation and that's all.

The only reason I would be praying in this instance is in the hopes that my car starts and gets me to my destination. Funny? Not when you have the car I have. Runs excellent most of the time BUt, when you least expect it and have all the family in the vehicle it decides to quit on me. Accidents? I wish for a non-injury one that totals my car and gives me a down payment for a new one. No, I am not timid about driving.

Hello my friend krajibg Ji,
I Pray as a part of my religion for each and everything. Before I start any job I Pray. There is no question of being timid or otherwise. Is tehre any harm in praying. I have been brought up under these conditions and atmosphere to Pray Almighty, before start and end of Job. I find no timidness.
So here I pray after completing response.
May God bless You and have a great time.

No, I don't pray before I go somewhere. If it's my time to go, I can't do anything about it. In fact, I rarely pray for myself because I think God has a plan for me and I just need to do my best to fulfill it. I pray often throughout the day but it's usually prayers of thanks. I have confidence in my driving and traveling skills and if I am injured or killed I doubt it could be avoided with a prayer.

Well I don't think that when a person prays it is a sign that he/she is being timid or lacking confidence on oneself. Praying is a natural thing for those who knows how to talk to God.
Whenever I travel I always pray to God for safety. When I don't drive I pray that driver of the vehicle I'm riding on may drive safely, giving the driver a good eyesight and good decision making. The same thing goes when I'm driving. I know I drive safely, but what about other people who don't and crash on to my car?
A lot of things can happen in the streets. We thought we are really safe but unexpectedly we could be the unluckiest person and be involved in an accident. There's nothing to pray for added safety.
Ciao!

I think its not because of lack of confidence why we pray before going out or driving a car or when we live our home it's more likely asking for protection coz we never know what will happened along the way ... accident happens all the time and can never be prevented even if you are extra careful but with His guidance we feel safe in everything we do for the whole day. And I think that is what we are also used to do ever since.

asking God to take care while travelling is not being timid, dada. it is a belief with which people grow. from the time an infant starts understanding things the child is taught about God or the supreme power that takes care of the universe and all its living and non living beings. whether one believes in God or not, still one has it in the subcnscious mind that God is omniscient and omnipresent.
so as for my point of view, i think, asking God for help is more of belief than being timid.

I have been known to be verbal with my prayers to God, when one of my daughters takes the keys, and ultimately my very own life, in their hands. These prayers are intermitted pleas for safety, between sharp intakes of breaths and slamming my foot down on an imaginary brake pedal. I know one day I will no longer be able to drive, and will have to rely on one of them to take me about town. I pray that when that day comes, I will be blind and hard of hearing, but ever so fluently versed in the word of the Lord our God!
