What do you think of the police officers in your area?

I live in a capitol city. I feel that we have alot of very good police officers in this area. We have had a few instances where a officer has not followed protocol and gotten into trouble but this hasn't happened very often. I have had my share, maybe more than my share, of run ins or reasons to have cops called to my home because of my grandchildren or neighborhood problems. For the most part they have been respectful and business-like. I can recall only two in the last 15-20 years that were jerks. I am wondering if this stands true for other parts of the country as well. Are the police you come into contact with good at what they do, cordial, and all round nice humans? Have you or friends or family had any bad experiences? Do you have an opinion of the police force in your area?

Only had tehm here twice and they were friendly. The first time one had gone thru my gate didnt know it was a cop and I turned my dogs out. He had his dog held and hollering that he was a cop well I got my dogs in fast. and we laughed about it for all I say was my gate open couldnt see around the house. Next time the son of lady next door for no reason that I heard came over and snuck up behind my hubby and blindsided him and when on ground he kicked and hit hubby. I just barely heard hubby call my name! By the time I got outside he was going around the fence and into house. CAlled cops and took pics of hubby and teh BI**CH next door said she didnt know any one like that! But I got the report from them but still couldnt pin it on him for no one else was out to seethis happen. was 10 pm and very dark! BUt yes they were very nice!

Man! Some people's kids, huh? Glad the police were nice. I have had some weird situations with my grand daughter and each time the police were helpful and nice. One time we had a real jerk though. My daughter and her bf had walked over to the store just a block or two away but on the other side of a busy main street. My grandson had been over at the neighbors and I guess he had seen his mom go and wanted to join her. I was upstairs and had no idea any of this was going on until i heard cops talking and went to see what was going on. Well my grandson had been out on that street trying to cross and someone saw him and called 911. Three or four police came. One was a guy who immediately thought my daughter and her boyfriend were in the wrong and was vey boligerate and nasty with them. We all tried to explain and finally a female cop listened and she went over to the neighbors and varified he had been over there. The boligerant cop never apologized for his attitude at all. Funny note here though. Through out his boligerance I could tell the other cops were not happy with his attitude at all and kept interupting him like they were trying to get him to shut up. Needless to say we don't let him go over to those people's house anymore. They should have walked him home or something.

I think we have some good, and some bad. I believe that power gets to them sometimes. I babysat for one who was proud of having walked out on some debts and was the laziest man this side of the moon. They are human beings. To be a policeman you have to want to do a job for the public.

This is a really good discussion and I am sure that different people have different opinions when it comes to cops, and how they feel about them,I do not have any problem with most of the cops around here, except some of them seem to me corrupt and will pull you over for no reason other than to harass you which is wrong, and I want to be a cop one day,but my wife does not want me to,because it is really dangerous, but I respect all the cops out there putting their life on the line to protect us from the gangs and the criminals that make it dangerous to leave your house, have
