In todays world of ever increasing tensions and stress, is the belief in religion help?
Or it religion in the current world is the root cause of increasing terrorism?
what is your opinion about this.
In my point of view knowing and living according to ones religion is some thing very good which can make people think that every thing they do is seen by god and if we do bad we will be punished and will be sent to hell and if we do good we will be rewarded and will be sent to heaven. This will always regulate human thinking to the right way.
But always half doctor kills the patient. so an incomplete or wrong belief will be very dangerous and that is what creates religious terrorists.

Abhijith, you are thinking too fast too many things!Religion is one form of disciplining one's wayward mind. And as posted by my predecessor, religions serve to divide humanity- though there is an underlying unity in all religions, nobody wants to see it. This is because of the over-zealous love for one's own religion that is preached in all the religions. Show me one religion that doesn't subtly or openly say that it is the best and the rest are bad or incomplete in some way, or will not lead to salvation or whatever that is, is the teaching of that particular religion.Yes, one must admit that there is strife due to religion all over the world. Do you think there won't be strife if religions weren't there? Man would soon find other ways of inducing strife.
For one thing the idea of heaven and hell are one of the most simplistic( bordering on the kiddish) things, that religions could come up with. Intolerance for the growth and existence of the other faith is one of important causes for terrorism. It is just to upset others' lives esp. those who are growing richer and enjoying relatively peaceful lives that terrorists seek to break, by their acts, in the process invoke religious dicta often wrongly understanding their intent.

Religion is basically a form of division of whether which guidlines do you believe in. Its fine like that.. as you can believe any type of rituals its part of human rights. But as you mentioned, finding religious beliefs as an excuse for killing people (wat terrorists do) cannot be forgiven. In India the other purpose of religion is politics.. The politicians still follow the great DIVIDE AND PRINCIPLE that was used by the British. They divide the society into a number of sections .. the general classification is the sector with reservation and another sector without reservation (reservation is the process of giving priority in education, scholarships, employments by reserving certain number of seats for each sector considering them as socially backward (without giving much importance to their economical status) I'm not trying to blame any one who is enjoying these benefits, but the system created by the politicians for their selfish aims! I donno wat the scenario is in other countries. Hope my response helped!

Many people use religion as an excuse for their evil deeds. It's not religion; it's hateful "need" to control others and have their way.

In some ways I am not sure. Today there was a couple that missioned in Haiti, they want to spread the word to other countries and now there is a couple from Haiti in Afica in muslim part of the country. I feel it is a persons choice and culture to keep what they believe. I have been to quite a few different countries and I respect their beliefs and culture, if Americans keep butting in and trying to change people we will make more enemies than we already have. But it is their beliefs not ours so we really should leave well enough alone. Religion is part of the culprit but the people are the main thing here. Every religion is different and we americans and christians can not pressure or push or ideals on others, that is not christian like to me.

Hello,
I think following a religion in today's society helps reduce stress and tensions in life. Religion is the path to help one become more focused and rejuvenate themselves from their busy schedule. I don't believe at all that religion is the cause of terrorism because people whom are terroist do not follow their religion accordingly. Terroist are radicals of their religion which by far is a bad viewing of their religion they have a dysfunction of how they view and see God.
