Is Punctuality important to you?

Were you raised to always be on time? Or were you always waiting for your mom or dad who were never ready, and your family earned a reputation for always being late? Did you become determined to always be on time? I am always a time watcher and hate people who doesn't respect the time for appointment. But living in today's world with unpredictable traffic, train, or bus patterns, and last minute things taking longer than the last minute, you may be late some of the time. Everyone is late sometimes. Rather than fall apart, understand that from time to time, you, too, may be late.

Hi there! I try to remain punctual as much as I can. I hate to be late. Whenever there is some scheduled meeting/event/party, I prefer to reach earlier rather than late. It is important to be punctual and value the importance of time. If we are late every time, we will not be respected and people will tag us as 'habitual late comers'. I also do not like those persons, who make it a habit to be late and do not reach at any place in time and when confronted they start making silly excuses, which make me more irritated.

Hi dear! I was of the opinion that 'late comers' to weddings/functions are found only in India.. However, I find that same things happen at your place. Here also in wedding invitations, people put one hour early time because they know that people are not punctual and they will reach late.

I wouldn't like to be late too. In my place people are known to be slow and late. It is so troublesome when there are big functions like wedding party when those invited guests does not honor the time stated in the invitation card. So many people now adjust their time in the card to one hour early from the real start of lunch party so people will gather early and can start the party on the dot. Because of the attitude of the people here who are ignorant of the importance of punctuality that it has been made a mockery to call it 'Malaysian time'. Malaysian time has been coined to mean 'late time.

Punctuality is important in most cultures. Students must be punctural for classes, not to miss any of the lecture, and not to create any inconvenience for classmates. Teachers should take care not to extend lecture, so that students can be punctural for the next class. Punctuality is regarded highly in commercial occasions. Too early or too late may give a non professional impression.

You express punctually very well. Whatever situation we are in, punctuality should always be treated as a serious matter. It can make or break a deal when time management is bad.

yes it is very important. if i specify a time, i want to be there at that time. that applies to other people as well. i dont want to be waiting there for half an hour while they are still getting ready. there are situations where it is understandable, like when there is unexpected traffic and suhc. but most of the time they would be there five minutes before the specified time. personally, i plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before so that even if there is small traffic, i can get there on time

We should always give time allowance to this sort of unexpected delays.

Yes, punctuality is very important to me. If I am late all, I feel stressed so unless under extreme circumstances, no matter what the nature of the meeting, social or business, I will always be there when I say I will be there. When people turn up when they want to regardless of what they have said they would do, I feel that is an insult to the person they are meeting. And in business, it can cost them a lot of money. - Derek

Exactly, not only it cost money to be late, people lost trust on you when there is a business deal. It is better to show up early so people will have good judgment on you.

Did you consider punctuality as one of the basis to improve your business? Happy mylotting...!!!

I hate to be late, I always make it a point to come on time, when I was still a student, most of the time I was late at school, and lost a lot of opportunities, now that I'm already matured, I always told my children to be on time whether in school or in other appointments, it's better to wait than be waited, it's not a good attitude to be late and might give a bad impression for them.

Yes, punctuality is very very important to me. I would be rather early than late. I become very irritated with myself even if I reach two minutes late.Even if the circumstance was unavoidable I would hate to reach late. I value time a lot. It is very precious. Iwould not want to waste others time and as well appreciate if others also do the same. I hate people who are not punctual.

Good that you are strict when it comes to time management.
26 Jul 09
You probably would hate me then. I have always been late to school, work, appointments and even interviews in some occassion. I just can't keep hold of time, it slips by my hand like a slithering snake. I don't know how you people do it. My teacher in school used to say, there should be a grade for making excuses up because everyday i had an excuse to say why i was late and it was always different but strong enough for me to win my case...lol.

Because you are smart and your excuses are believable so you never learn the essence of punctuality. Time to learn to be punctual. It will save you a lot of embarrassment, money and maybe your love life in future.

Oh yes you just reminded, i forgot to put in my list, i am also always late when meeting up with my gf, uh oh...I am so glad shes such a patient person...lol. Don't worry the time will come soon, am sure..;p

Yes, being on time may not be important to my mother, but it is very important to me. My mother is notorious for being late, and I cannot stand it. I like to be on time because being on time shows that I am reliable and it shows that I care. It shows that I want to be at the place that I am at. Being late shows that I do not care enough to be there.

Lucky you are not 'like mother like daughter'. Too bad if you inherit her character in not being punctual always. Should tell her to be punctual always.

Although I grew up in a family who were always late for everything and yes we held that reputation of the family that were always late. Now I hate being late and unfortunately now I marry a husband who is late for everything lol. I know that things can happen from time to time that will cause you to be late. And sometimes those things can be understandable. But when its almost like every outing, get together or appointment that you are late for then it tends to be crazy and that is the type of family that I grew up in. One time when I was graduating from business school I was almost late for my own graduation lol. Thankfully I wasn't but I try to be on time. And also in getting my husband to things on time as well.

Being late is no excuse if you have plan our your time well. I have had experience when I was late for a flight. I was not allowed to enter the departure lounge as I was late. My ticket cannot be used for another flight and am forced to buy a new ticket. That was a bitter lesson for and from then on I am always punctual in anything I do.

Time is gold. We shouldn't waste it and we shouldn't waste other people's time, too. That's why for me, punctuality is very important. People should be more considerate about other people's time so they should always make it a point to observe punctuality on appointments. But I'm also aware of the fact that there are events that are beyond our control. There are times that no matter how hard we try to come on time, but because of unforeseen, inevitable events, we still come late. I guess instances like this are forgiveable. What's detestable is when you make a habit out of being late.

Funninly enough both my parents were often late for events, appointments and therefore punctuality is very important to me. Infact im always at least ten minutes early when Im meant to meet someone. I don't mind if someone is up to ten minutes late as they cannot be expected to control public transport, weather ect.. However I can get a bit annoyed if they are quite late and don't call or contact me as it means they don't care about other peoples time. If I myself am late, a very rare occasion indeed I make sure to make it clear how sorry I am. :-)
