When I am nervous or in tension the first thing I do is to chew up my nails. And I do it not even realising what I am doing it. I have tried to stop this habit of mine so many times but in vain. Now my names are in such a bad state that I am ashamed to bring them out in front of anyone. What do you people do?

I tend to be a bundle of nerves everytime I have to walk in front of the crowd and talk. So what are my mannerisms? Well, I flip my hair a lot and my whole body actually trembles and stiffens from nervousness. But over the years, i have learned to cope with this very nerve-wracking situation by taking deep breaths and making mental pictures of things that calm me down.

Many people see being nervous or tense something to get rid of, but there are times when it is perfectly natural to be nervous or tense.
As a therapist, I teach people how to deal with such stress, and the technique I teach is to focus on the feelings rather than try to get rid of them or ease them. Nail-biting tends to bring relief in the short term, but as time goes by, another problem can arise and that is there are no nails left to bite and then shame and embarrassment it added to the problem.
Everyone gets stressed from time to time, it is a part of life. I practice and teach a meditation technique each day, that develops the ability to focus better, so that when the stress arises in life, that mental focus can be used to improve matters. If you want a link to the meditation technique, please message me. - Derek

I will close my hands so tightly and hardly.
I will breath longer to release my tensions.
Rob my 2 hands so that heat will come out .
Always think positive to the things I will do.
That's the thing I would do If I have tensions.
When I was young I can't handle now that I'm
growing I can mange everything to overcome this
habit.

I am ashamed to say I tend to walk about the room when I am thinking through a difficult or stressful issue. It is a bad habit that I have picked up since it only seems to add to the stress! I must add to my list of potential New Year's resolutions to try and stop pacing about the place nervously.

I have some friends who bite their fingernails all the time even they are not nervous about anything. I guess when a person is concerned about himself by chewing part of his body it brings some sort of relief and comfort, since he has something to hold on to.
When I am nervous I tend to rob my nails against my teeth (but I don't chew them), or I would feel my face with my finger tips. Sometimes if the circumstance is very pressing I may have a loud sneeze. I don't think any of these actions I do looks good in front of people.
