I think in this case the IP address is required so that they verify that you actually did the task. I did a task on mylot, the one that required to download a software by SharonBucks that also asked for the IP address. By the ip address someone may trace you internet provider and location, that is country and maybe even city but I'm not quite sure someone can know who you are. Your internet company I suppose would know though and I guess that is how Police trace certain people doing illicit things.

This site can tell you your IP address and other details, people can also search for info so if I know an ip address I can search for it. It gave me also the browser I am using but did not guess my city. You may have a look at it.

Hi dolphin2406,
I am doing the task for other site. And I didn't see the reason for them to know our ip address at first. But now I think I knew why they as it. It is just to make sure we did what they ask us to do. Thanks for the help.
Happy mylotting and have a nice day.

i would surely not say that disclosing your own ip address is a safe practice on the internet. I can do a lot of nasty things to a insecure pc if i get the IP address, that is why stuff like proxy networks and proxy sites were created in the first place.
These proxy networks mask your real IP address, they make sure your privacy is not compensated, unless and untill you go and do some major crime when they will give out your IP to trace you out.
Even if you are giving out your IP make sure your machine is firewalled and secured.
Hope this helps.
