Sarah's "Duty to Avoid Lame Duck Session"?

I'm sure many of you who post frequently in the politics interest watched Sarah Palin's final speech as Governor of Alaska with great interest just as I'm sure when it's discussed it will seem that we didn't all hear the same speech. What I heard was praise for Alaska and our military, which is fine, and attacks against the media, Hollywood and Democrats. Some of the lines that stuck out for me are when she told the media to "Stop makin' things up" (she didn't elaborate on what), when she predicted Hollywood would be coming with their starlets against the Second Amendment (We eat, therefore we hunt) and when she said many asked why she was leaving, saying it should be obvious abd that, "I feel it's my duty to avoid the typical, unproductive, politics-as-usual lame duck session of the last year in office." I guess we're lucky most of our elected officials don't mind shirking their duties, right? Things could get kind of chaotic if ALL the lame ducks in the country decided to quit a year and a half before their terms ended!
What I didn't hear much about at all was the new Governor. She said he has a great family so, "Leave his family alone!" I guess that was all the changing of the guard she felt was needed.
Basically, she loves her family, Alaska and America but she hates the media, Hollywood and Democrats, all of which are part of the America I live in but what do I know...lol?
To the rest of you who watched the speech, what did you take from it?

Sorry I'm so sad that I missed it. I was doing other things and I suppose that it really doesn't matter since most of the time she speaks, I need a Palin to English dictionary.

Annie, Palin loves "HER" America, the one where people don't question what you do, or what you say. The kind of place where you can say on thing one day, and say the opposite the next, and claim that YOU misunderstood her. I don't know why anyone is surprised that she quit, I think everyone knew that she was never going back to Alaska. I am surprised it took her that long to quit, I figured she was never going to go home.

You're so right, it's HER America as long as it's all about HER! I've also never seen anyone with aspirations of running for a national office go on and on as much about their state as she does. I realize her speeches when she announced her resignation and when she said "farewell" were for the Alaskan people but I can't help but get the feeling that if she ever did become President or Vice President we in the "lower 48" wouldn't get much of her attention. Many of the other candidates during the campaign represented their states either in Congress or as a governor and they still spoke in terms of serving the entire nation and didn't spend all their time bragging up how great THEIR state is.

The people of Alaska already know Sean Parnell, they voted for him as Lt. Governor so she wasn't introducing a stranger to them. I think he will have a much easier time with the media, simply because there isn't any focus on him, only on her.
"Stop makin' things up" might refer to the story (admittedly started on a blog but then broadcast in the MSM) that Trig was her daughter's baby she was only pretending to have, and photoshopped pictures of her with her head on someone else's body, etc...
Regardless of what anyone might think, the internet is part of the media. If there were made up stories about you all over the internet, available to millions of people, you probably wouldn't take any comfort in the fact that those spreading the lies are just "bloggers" or "it's just a website", especially after they have been reported on by the major networks. Just here on myLot there is plenty of reporting of lies and half-truths and speculations, multiply that by thousands of websites where this goes on just as much as it does here.
For good or bad, it seems no one can get enough of Sarah Palin, even those who don't like her are continually fascinated with her every move and every word.
I certainly hope for your sake, Annie, that Sarah Palin continues in the public view and pursues a career in politics, because I don't know what you would do without her.

Thanks for your kind concern but I'll be just fine! If none of us had every heard of Sarah Palin there would have been something or someone else filling in the time on TV, etc. that's been spent on her. I was on myLot "BS" (Before Sarah) and hopefully I'll still be here and myLot will still be here if and when she fades from the public eye. There was always plenty to talk about BS so there will surely be plenty of BS if she's no longer making news.

Its only going to get worse because now that newspapers are going bankrupt, their not going to be willing to pay for professional reporters and finding their sources through the Internet--Associated Press recently began taking reports from nonprofit journalist groups--w/o the money to hire reliable investigative reporters also means its likely they won't have the money to hire professionals to research sources.

What did I take from it? Continued appreciation for my governor who is still hard at work here in Florida. Continued distaste for Palin's cocky attack style and relief that she will soon fade from view. Now she can concentrate on her book tour and her efforts to raise PAC money so that she can run around the country promoting herself. I suspect that she's going to be in for an unhappy surprise sometime in 2010 or 2011 when she realizes that she's become a "has been" with that Quitter tag still hanging around her neck.

Wow, nice excuses, if everytime I had a tough job maybe I should have used those excuses and quit. I see lots and lots a officials who manage to finish their terms and get alot accomplished, to me that is a bunch of nonsense. She is like the child in the playground who leaves when they no longer can get their way.
