Hi sarav29, I don't think Pirates is a true story or based on a true story or even inspired by a true story. However, I know there was an East India Company and the British were in Asia. And I think Jack Sparrow's character was inspired by a true pirate of the 18th Century called Blackbeard who also braided his beard like Jack Sparrow does.

Its not a true story but you can say that the writer is inspired by a story and lifestyle of pirates and he compiled them in a movie.. Happy mylotting

No it can't be a true story.Not at all close to a true story. Its so hilarious.People do such stupid things that they can't even be called as "pirates".Only thing that can be real depicted in this movie is their dressing sense and way of living. Anyway, great discussion! Have a nice day!

I don't think it is a true story, or at least the people's behavior. But it may be inspired by old pirate tales and legends, the part of Davy Jones at least I know it's real. There existed a period in history when piracy in the Caribbean sea was notorious and dangerous, the movie may have some ideas and seeds of inspiration from there.
