It is month end, you are broke.. Who do you call?

Each of us are suppose to keep aside some money for savings each month for rainy days. Unfortunately, not all of us are lucky enough to be able to do that. Some of us barely survive the whole month with the salary we got. We struggle day by day, month by month, year by year. And when a month suddenly turned so unfortunate, so many unexpected expenses occured, we got broke before the next salary comes. What will you do? Who will you call? Will you borrow from your parents? Will you call your friends for help? Will you hybernate at home until your next salary eating the roaches that roam in the room? Or will you go on spending on your credit card hoping to get enough cash to pay the bill next month? Tell me... have you ever got broke and what did you do to overcome it?

This is a very good question and i usually face this problem of severe financial crisis in the month's end and i have been put inot some desperate situations due to money crisis in themonth's end and i used to borrow some small amount from my friends and repay them once I get my salary in the first week of the month. Nowadays due to the availability of online facilities such as blogging, Myloting etc., Thank god i am able to make some extra money so that I am not pushed into a position where i need to borrow money from others. Thanks to these sites for helping me out. Have a great day ahead and happy earnings. Cheers:-)

Will it certainly will not come down to eating roaches or any other kind of bug. My husband and I have been though hard spots, but you would be surprised what flour and water do. I know it sounds vain but sometimes parents can not help and if they could I know they would. There has been times I have through recipes together that I did not even no where they come from. There is always programs like gods pantries that will help you with the basics just to get you by if needed. The hard part is if there are children involved. Even if you do not qualify for government programs they can tell where Gods Pantry and other programs of such are in your area. Everyone , even the ones that get a steady paycheck, need help now and then again. Don't be afraid to ask. May God bless you and your family. I hope this information was helpful if nothing else gives you alittle encouragement that you are not alone.

It is really sad when it comes to that . You just have to keep fighting and asking because there are many people who are always willing to give a helping hand . It is hard and its hard for us , but ya just keep going , and make due.

Yeah, certainly I've not come across a situation so bad that I need to eat roaches. Things will be so much easier to go through if it is just adults involve. As you say it, when there are kids involve, we have to think of them first before anything. So better save when we can.. thanx.

I know all too well what this is all about!!! I have faced having pennies in my bank account and have even had a rent check bounce which ultimately got me kicked out of the place after 7 years of tenancy!! My solution? SAVE. I know you had mentioned that money is tight and the purpose of this subject is to see where you would go for help. Well, I do not have any family I could borrow from, and my friends are on just as tight of budgets as I am. I began saving my tax returns 3 years ago, and keep that as as safety net so I don't get myself in a bind. My goal is to have around $2000 in my account. That way, I have money for car troubles, added expenses, emergency gas money if I have to leave town, etc. When you file your taxes, continue on with your spending as if that money never came and leave it in a safe account somewhere where you will not spend it. Keeping your hand off excess money can require great discipline, but it is worth it for the piece of mind and not having to sweat it if a problem arises.

I have borrowed money from family in the past and have yet to pay them back. (Only one in particular though-that somewhat hangs over my head.) My mother had lent me some money when I filed for divorce for the retainer fee of an attorney. Since then, my mother and I have had a terrible falling out (my mother is nuts-and one who expects everyone to do things her way.) That was nearly 5 years ago. Should I pay her back? I guess I should, but she turned on me, calling me names and completely discrediting me for lots of things in my life. Oh, and she didn't raise me either-only up until age 4, and then she was gone, and I didn't see her for 12 years. So, should I pay her back? Well, I know that she will never be another option for me to turn to. That'll make you own up and take care of your own, for sure. When you know you wouldn't even consider calling for such a thing. Our relationship is over and has been for about 2 years.

I have been thru it all as well . Borrowing money from anyone or loans, or anything just gets you in a bigger mess. I am saving now little at a time , because my rainy day funds have come .

Bugs ewww! That is a no no beans rice potatoes and tortillas are very cheap and it feeds alot and will keep you full That's what I eat when I'm broke. But to borrow money is hard to do because if your broke almost every month how can you pay it back I always look for ways to make money find what your good at and sell it :-))

I don't think I have ever got broke before when I was at work, because I always have athe habit of saving so I ahve saved since when I was little, we have Chinese New Year so I can say the "lai see" - money in a little red pocket that given by the relatives and families. and my mom gave me some pocket money as well so I could save. So when I really didn't have any money to use anymore, I went to dig in the saving account, I didn't need to do that verymuch though since I had a good management of how to use my salary well. And I don't have any credit card, I wouldn't put myself in a tough situation that I need to pay for the credit card or anything.

When I was alot younger I would borrow from my parents. When I got older I would budget my money to last however on the few occasions when we had unexpected occurrences happen I would borrow from my boyfriend or just wait it out till I got paid again. If my boyfriend ran out of money he coud borrow from me.

When I was younger, I dont need to borrow from my parents as I was living with them. When I ran out of money, I just stay home and eat home and not go out. You are lucky you have a boyfriend to turn too when you ran out of money and vice versa. :)

I know when I was a teen my brother and me would borrow from our parents and small amounts. With the smaller amounts we never had to pay back . When you get older sometimes you dont think and borrow big amounts from banks, or have the credit cards and that gets you in a bigger mess.

I have encountered this situation before when I was a bit younger back then,I always spend without budgeting for each items and things. It is always by the end of the month where I am out of money and I will be looking high and low for any money to be borrowed. Somehow I do not like to borrow from the bank or friends because it just make me feel a little uneasy at times. Usually i would go to my parents and ask for some money that i will then return to them once my pay is out.Recently i have been budgeting a lot and cut down going out and hence I am no longer experiencing lack of money at the end of the month.

i'm probably one of thse who do away the whole month with what i get paid as salary. But in your case probably i would as a loan from my friend (at office or general) or use my credit card (of course not to lavish around with cloths and junks). It completely depnds on how use wisely spend the money. We make a monthly budget and also make provisions for contingencies. This way the money spent is channelized and we have the provision stacked for the whole of the month! If you have not tried this method, try it and do let unknow your experiences. :)

Spend your time wisely at home too. The GOOD surveys and the making money like this site. Pennies but those do add it. How much did you make by watching TV? And the electricity used to watch it etc. you learn to guage those things and make priorities.

I am a Financial Advisor, so if I become broke at month end, then it is shame on me. But I have close friends, especially salaried persons who go through these cycles every now and then. I feel, it is more a matter of financial discipline rather then income not being insufficient. You need to be prudent in spending, and if you stick to your self framed rules, then the question of being broke does not arise.

You can just imagine that inspite of my advise that they keep getting into these kind of situations more often than not, will I continue advising them???. No way. They are 'that' type of people, who never learn.

So do you advise your friends who encountered this situation months after months on how to be prudent? Sometimes, we need to change our lifestyle, but .. not willing to do so, and that results in what happened at the end of the month..

I remember those times! I call my mum and kindly request her to bank-in some money for me. Since she past away in May 2006, I learn how to keep back-up money/emergency money. I found my siblings call me when month end as they are broke and no mum to ask! It's fun and painful when 'that' person gone forever!

I have not encounter this, but what I will do is first dig into my piggy bank.. and see how much do I have there.. I have got good connection with some hawkers, and I will change with them... if insufficient, then credit card will be the next options.. family and friends are those the last I will call as besides owing them money, I don't want to owe them the obligation too... I find it hard to ask for loan that way, provided it's really emergencies.. if it's just for the sake of tying me over the month end, I will try to strive it on my own..

Hi, if it is month end, and I am broke... Who I am gonna call???? Let me see...looks like I will just spend on my credit card as most of the expenses nowadays can be paid via credit card like water/internet/electricity/ accessment fees/handphone bills/landline bills. I will end up eating at Kentucky Fried Chicken, ChicKen Rice Shop, Pizza Hut and those restaurants that accep credit cards ...lol My problem arise when the credit card statement came with the due date being overdue..who I gonna call ...MY WIFE :)

Aww James, You must have the sweetest wife EVER! It's nice isn't it? When we ended up broke and cashless, we actually ended up eating better food? Alright, so maybe fast food can't be considered better food, but at least they are an indulgence once in a while. But since when KFC started accepting credit cards? The KFC in my place only accepts cash and coins.. :)

When I am broke, I suffer in silence. It is just something that I cannot go on and tell others of my situation. I mean, other people have their own problems They may be juggling their own bills and just succeed nicely not to get their pockets in trouble. The problem is that others depend on me for financial support. So, it is tough to rely on others when I am the one they rely on. So, what do I do? Well, budget down when it is the end of the month. Control my spending. Control what flows out. It's difficult but it has to be done. Sometimes I use my credit cards to buy my groceries and that helps to support my expenses for a few days until when my salary is banked in.

And you must be very wise and mature to be able to handle your finance properly. What you've done when you are running short is very kind and selfless. I appreciate people like you. Keep it up!

If it was the end of the month and I had bills to pay and was completely broke, I highly doubt I'd end up calling someone to help me out. I hate asking for help and I just moved into an apartment and got a pretty OK job so I'm more determined than ever to really make this work without having to break down and ask someone for money. I just do not want to do it. I have several hundred dollars in savings right now and I really am trying to keep it stocked (it's a high interest savings account) so if something does happen, I have a surplus of money to live on for a few weeks if I need it. I really hope that doesn't happen but if it does, I do have something set aside.

I know what you mean, I'm broke most of the time now. I don't think I've left my home but a handful of times in the past five years. I keep hoping that I'll win big in the lottery but that's kind of hard to do when I don't have the money to play. I don't much of a life since five years ago. But at least I'm still alive

Dear submerryn, Congrats on your achievement of the minimum payout! Are you using paypal account, Malaysia do not have...How??? For myself, I came from very poor family, from an estate! Seen how the poor live, how my family survive on taking daily sundries on credit, how my neighbours quarrel and fight when no money at the end of the month! I learned, money can solve many problems... so from a tender age of 7, my mum trained me to save.... I even bring stickers to the school to sell just to earn some money...BUT I lost quite substantial in the stock market... For myself, if I have not enough money by end month, I won't eat, I just drink water but I make sure my son have his proper meals! But my husband is different, if no money to spend to buy food from the stall, he will even spend MORE, because using credit card, he ha to dine at fine dinig or restaurant that accept credit cards...lol...So, Submerryn, remeber I told you that I need to send my husband to you for 'Training on spending on Credit Card?'

Iriene, you should have paypal account. Otherwise how did you sign up for myLot? Well, for my paypal, I'm going to add an e-debit card and hoping that I can cash it out. I have a friend who is familiar with paypal and hoping to learn more from her when I have more money in paypal. About the credit card spending, tell your husband that not necessarily need to spend in porch places. You can use credit card to purchase groceries from the supermarket. And by groceries, I mean instant noodles!

I faced this situation long back. But not so badly, I just had to control my expenses and get going. In case we needed some money, we always approached our friends for help. They are the best people to ask for a timely help. Yeah, parents can also help but in my case friends helped us a lot. As soon as we got the salary, we again became happy and the first thing we did was repaying the debts. It is a nice feeling when you repay debts as soon as possible.

If I were ever in that situation, I would call my parents. They have always been open about letting us know they will help us (my brothers and I) with anything we might need. It is great knowing that, and it gives a sense of family as well. I would not resort to putting things on my credit, because there is just too much risk that it would bust in my face and not being able to pay.
