I had this problem because of the stress... i just couldn't fall asleep at night... i started taking valerian root extract before sleep and it really helped. in under 30 minus i can be sound a sleep no matter what tests await me the day after. I try to sleep at least 7 hours every night although it could be difficult becasue i have to do 20 page long reports every week, plus study insane amounts of information...

i think where you sleep greatly affects how much sleep yo get. try to change your bed or the stuffs around it or on it try also to re arrange the position of your bed. i have tried this and really works. i also have a very short sleep during college years but how much is not the real problem it is on how well or comfortable it is.

you can push back your bedtime to about 10pm and then you can sleep a little longer. Once you wake up eat a big breakfast, take a snack with you to school and eat it around 10am or between classes, and then eat a hearty lunch and another snack around 3pm or between classes, eat a moderate dinner, have homework done before 8pm, bathe, read a book, and then go to bed at 10pm.
There are many ways that you can increase sleep time when you are flat out exhausted. Falling asleep in class is caused by lack of sleep and lack of nutrition that your body needs. I hope this helps!

don't fight it, you'll get used to it. joke. 8 hours of sleep is not really necessary, it differs for every person. but seeing that you're tired with 5-6 hours of sleep then you might really need to extend your sleeping time. try to sleep earlier, it will be hard at first. before i sleep at around 1 am, but i need to get up at around 4:30-5:30 so i'm always cranky during the day. get in bed at around 9-10, try to sleep. even if you're not sleepy don't get up your bed *because you might be tempted to watch a little tv first or log in to the internet... and it's past 12 before you know it* after a few days your body will adjust.. if you haven't had enough sleep, you can also squeeze in a little nap during the day (just not during class hours, lol). me i sometimes sleep while i commute, but you might miss your stop (never happened to me though). or take a nap while waiting for your next class. just keep your nap short though, if you nap for more than an hour, you might get in trouble sleeping later during nighttime

Hey,
Yea I was also lazy in school, and I also had terrible sleeping patterns when I was still in school. Some nights I could just not sleep, it was horrible, and other nights I was so tired but I couldn't sleep because I had an assignment due the next day. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

What witmuch said was very wise and true sleep wise. However if you're still feeling tired after a normal eight hours of sleep if you're able to get it... then ask your professors about recording the lecture with a tape recorder. Still take notes though, but then you can go over them later and see if there was anything important in the lecture you may have missed.
