Epilepsy

My son is 9 years old and he has epilepsy as a result of being born with a brain disorder. He is a bright, intelligent wee boy who goes to mainstream school. His seizures are well controlled but he now thinks that because of this everyone thinks that he is disabled and he gets very upset when people try to help him. Anyone else felt like this? He feels that he doesnt need help and that everyone should leave him alone. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Your son has a very difficult time right now and i think you just need to be there for him. First of all, 9 years olds are a very complicated age. try to read this: http://childparenting.about.com/od/childdevelopment/a/nineyearoldhom.htm Just be sure to explain to him what he is going through and comply to his medication schedule.

Thanx very much for that, I have explained to him and he understands he has epilepsy but through the effects of his brain disorder he doesnt understand emotions. So it makes the situation more difficult.
