Unless you live in Alaska Palin does not have any effect on you. Now that she is no longer Governor she does not even effect the lives of those in Alaska. This same question could be ask about the lefts hatred of individuals like Rush Limbaugh or other conservatives on TV or radio. These people cannot raise your taxes, infringe on your rights, or tell you what to do. Yet when these private citizens speak your blood boils, why though? You do not have to listen. Why do you fell the need to go onto websites that do your dirty work, and then post every one of their postings? Does your life suck that bad that you have nothing better to do?

I've long said that one of the advantages of being on the liberal side of the fence is that you have a license to hate.
It becomes cool. You're part of a group that says it's okay to hate others when you're a liberal. It's like this weird version of revenge for daring to disagree with their worldview.
Of course, you'll find plenty on the right who are full up with hate and spew it constantly, but there's no backing for that. These people are called out and dealt with. With the democrats, you're part of a party that dictates the terms of hate. They decide who it's okay to hate, why it's okay to hate them, and how far you can go in your hatred.
I watched this smug guy on the news the other night. When asked about Palin, he stated that all attacks against her were fair and warranted because she fights back. I guess, in his mind, she's supposed to sit there and take it. He also said that Palin is the biggest liar in political history -- bigger than Nixon. His reason for this was a comment she made about a TelePrompter that wasn't true (I had no clue what he was talking about).
The reasons I've heard from other Palin haters aren't even close to being that good! lol
Although this guy was a smug liberal jerk, he at least convinced himself that the hate was justified. A lot of other people who constantly berate Palin can't even provide that much.
I think it can be likened to a liberal's stance on war, poverty, racism, and a lot of other "causes" they take up. With war, for example, it never seems to bother them that other parts of the world are brutal. I'm pretty sure most never picketed the terror growing in the Middle Eastern region. But after we wage war against it, they're against it. And not because they feel it's morally wrong or anything, but because the coverage intrudes on their lives. So now they have a reason to hate, people to back up and identify with their hate, and this is the perfect recipe.
(Does "waterboarding is evil but rendition is okay" ring a bell? ... It's a scam)
Palin was never a problem until she had the audacity to accept the VP nod. Now it's like the hardcore libs all gathered and shouted, "How dare she!"
It's ironic. She inconvenienced their lives, they bark hate, but they really love doing it, so what could possibly be the problem? The left needed Palin.

that's unfair materfish. most of my views fall into the leftwing category (although i tend to think about things and don't just accept a ready made collection of ideas, which is one of the reasons i never went into politics) but that's because i'm fairly compassionate (don't jump on that one please). i don't go around mindlessly hating people that i disagree with, nor do most people with similar (although not the same)ideas. of course you get idiots from all sides, in fact with different groups of friends i imagine many of these people could quite easily go to hating a different set of targets. it would be equally easy to say the right is just an excuse for hate with more targets but i happen to know that isn't true.

Then I'm not talking about you. Simple enough?
:)
I don't know how else I can explain to you that a UK left-leaning person is not the progressive, secular, uberliberal IN AMERICA that I'm speaking of.

ok, i'll change the start of my comment to that is unfair to liberals. i know quite a few american liberals, as well as some moderate conservatives, and they are nothing like that. also if the american liberal types posting comments on here are what you mean then i can't see it at all. and the ideas about war, poverty, racism etc and other 'causes' are pretty universal. and there are not excuses to hate at all. i'd like to leave this one for the americans to fight out between themselves but since so far this discussion has been all rightwing, some on the far side, people agreeing with each other i'll continue being a pest.
i imagine that last comment may have got some people thinking i shouldn't be commenting on anything to do with the us so i'd like to stop that right now, basically, unlike some people, i always know something about what i'm commenting on.

Well I happen to be American and all I can say is Palin left a very bad taste in my mouth while she was campagning and make a comment that they did not need to go to the blue states since they where non american. Not those exact words but that is very close to what she had said. Maybe the republicans looked over that comment but I am sure many dems have not. As far as Rush he just spews I dont pay much attention to him.

Yet when Obama made derogatory comments about me and other, where were you? Obama left a very bad taste in the mouth, but we were call racist by people like you. So why should I care one bit if Sarah offend you, you show do not one bit of compassion when Obama made his comments.

Palin never made any comment even minutely resembling what you said. In fact, she said just the opposite. She stated that she was very disappointed with McCain and disagreed with his decision to stop campaigning in Michigan. She never once said anything about not going to blue states and she went to several.
See, the problem is that these lies spread like wildfire and people like you believe them.

Well taskr just so you are aware that this was not a rumor in fact I heard it myself I do not go by what people say unless I hear it. I am personally going to search and hopefully get a sound bite of her making this comment.

Well Rush Limbaugh is hated by the left because that's his job. He embodies every stereotype they love to tell about Republicans. He's a rich, white, Christian, overweight, middle-aged man. That's precisely what they claim that ALL republicans are so it's really a love-hate thing they have with him.
Palin is a different story altogether. She's the devil. She had the audacity to defy the stereotypes that the left put in place. Young, attractive, middle-class background, athletic, and female? How DARE she oppose them? Her crime is clear and as such she, and everyone close to her must be destroyed. Her husband, children, infant, even her state if that's what it takes to put this evil woman in her place.
Have you noticed that one anonymous comment insulting Obama's daughter on a random blog that subsequently deleted the comment cause the left to raise he!l and led to a 4 page thread of people saying how horrible it was?
On the other hand professional journalists, heads of major organizations, a government funded news organization in Canada, and every late night comic running out of material can insult and degrade Sarah Palin's children and the majority of people on the left will just say it's Palin's fault and she should have known this was coming. One person even said her teenage daughter "needs to put on her big girl panties". Seriously, I'm not making that up. Even those that acknowledge such attacks are wrong accuse her of "milking it" when she demands an apology for a perverted attack on her teenage daughter.

She was just determined to be the whipping girl for `a democratic press and people were all too happy to jump on the band wagon. I wish she had never accepted the VP posistion. I was bitterly disapointed when she sold herself to the republican national establishment. I wish she had instead jumped in to the race as an independant or libertarian. I was impressed with the way she stood up for her state, she could have been so much. What a waste.
I have never seen the level of childish, snide, snotty school girl, juvenile filth spewed about like I have in this last election and it's aftermath as I have with the attacks on the Governor and her family. And it continues, even in this very thread we had a blogger type come in with their babbling stream of garbage and nonsensical ranting.

I just wish I understood exactly what motivates people like that. I don't even these filthy people attacking her have any clue as to why they hate her. Not even Bush or Cheney have been on the receiving end of that level of hate and they've actually done damage to the country.

They hate her because they know that she's not an elitist like them. They claim moral superiority but she lives it. She's from the last frontier state where they still believe in states' rights and not the nanny state they want the government to become. She not only doesn't support abortion, she didn't even have one when she knew her son would have Down's Syndrome. She lives out her principles. While they all bemoan the hypocrisy of Republicans who claim to have Christian values and then cheat on their wives, they can't stand Palin because they can't find any dirt on her no matter how hard they dig. That in itself proves just who the hypocrites are.
While there are many right-wing talk show hosts on radio that I won't ever listen to again, I think the main reason people hate them is because they are popular and no liberal radio talk show has ever gotten ratings sufficient to keep it on the air. The reason? There's only so much bitterness and venom anyone can listen to. Even the most outrageous of the right wing talk shows are at least slightly humorous.

I'm not a big talk radio guy, but I've noticed something over the years between the right and the left's major talking points. Those on the right seem to attack the policy and ideology more often than not. Those on the left attack the character and integrity of the individual.
That's a gigantic difference to me. It doesn't seem like that would be the case when you consider that the left's ideology is supposedly superior in every conceivable way.

First of all I'm a liberal, I want to say that right away.
Second of all I could care less about SArah PAlin, I mean I cared when she was running for vice president because that would have affected me. I don't care about her now at all, actually I'm indifferent albiet a bit curious as to why she resigned from being Govenor.

See, you make perfect sense to me. I understand people who didn't like her making a fuss when she was the VP candidate, but I can't understand the viscous attacks over the last 8 months. I mean, they were already stooping to record lows with the lies and attacks during the election, but it got even worse after the election ended and she had no influence on the lives of anyone outside Alaska.

They are like nasty little children without manners. They need a lot of attention. If it would not be Sarah and Rush, it would be someone else. They are liberals who are very bitter and who love to travel in packs and be cool. Even if one of them did not hate Sarah and Rush that much, they would say the cruel things because it is cool with their friends. I cannot stand to be around them. They are never loyal as individuals. If they had a friend and everyone was putting that friend down, they would join in. That describes them perfectly.

GEW, that is 1000% WRONG. Her high taxes on the energy companies that she holds up like a badge of honor cost every single American. Energy companies don't just lower their profits, and eat that added cost. They increase their prices (and add on a little for good measure) to the consumer, and everything you buy goes up.

The same can be said of the Palin lovers on here ( you being one of the, but other people are much worse than you), if this women is the second coming then you shouldn't have to convince us. I can't tell you how many times I have seen one person here (I won't say her name), but do this exact same thing against our president. So why don't you go after her?

I wish you would show the world exactly how I am wrong. Yes Alaska does have high taxation on gasoline production in Alaska, but Alaska had high taxation before Sarah became Governor. Please explain this, is it not your opinion that energy taxation a good thing? Taxation on gasoline make gasoline more expensive, which make alternative fuel reasonable to purchase. I fell to see your angry toward a taxation on crude oil while you support cap and trade, which will make all carbon based energy more expensive.
To you point about being a Sarah lover the only reason I am a Sarah lover is because is because I love irritating people like you. I really do not support her, but if you hate her so much she is good for something
As to KR she is a loon but someone who has the right to be a loon. I do not read her dribble so it is not a problem to me.

I think there are some people who are so afraid she'll get into power that they feel they have to do whatever they can to belittle her in the hope of convincing others that she's unfit to serve. I personally feel that all they do is make themselves look petty.

They are scared of the influence Palin and Limbaugh have on other people. They know that these two have influence and an audience, and they don't like what they have to say.

Yes, the little war she is having with the media is ridiculous. I think they just like to talk about her because she was so hyped up during the election as a person to win over the bitter hillary voters, but she always came off as a goofy no nothing.
I do think that shes gunning for the 2012 GOP nomination though so you have to wonder if any press is good press?

I am not an American. But I can tell you that I enjoy the hype the she produced when she was running as the VP in the election. I have always been a fan of female politician, and I was eager to see how far she was able to go. I was disappointed when Hillary lost in the campaign, but found a light of excitement in the rise of Palin. Did she affect me negatively? Nope. But it is interesting what one individual can do to change the glamor of politics.

Influence on public opinion precedes any political action. Whether you, individually, listen or not, others do and shape their thoughts and attitudes around these pundits and political figures. And when you interact with others in political discourse, those thoughts come to the forefront. The point is, you will ultimately have to deal with public opinion being influenced by public figures one way or another. To say they have no effect on the political atmosphere in other places than just their district is naive.
