You earn for responding to discussions, creating discussions (once they get at least one response), commenting on responses both in your own and other discussions and also for posting relevant images (when you are able to do so, which I think is once your user rating reaches 200).
The most important thing is to make sure that you post quality discussions and responses which abide by the Guidelines. There is no fixed amount 'per post'. It all depends on the quality of your responses.
First of all, you should read the Guidelines and try to understand that they are there not as 'rules' but examples of what to do and what not to do. If discussions get deleted because they don't follow the Guidelines, you will lose money if your started them or responded to them.
I'd advise just responding to discussions for a few days before starting any of your own. That way you should get a better feel for what makes a 'good' discussion and what doesn't.
Finally, read what others write and look at their profiles. Invite people to be friends if you seem to have the same interests and if you like what they say. It's a good idea to have made some responses yourself first before thinking about adding to your friends list.
