just now, i talked with one of my friends, casue he needs to take a bus back after the work for abt 1 hour. i asked what did he usually do when on the bus? he told me, most of the time, he did nothing, just stared blankly. i certainly knew he was joking with me. so, i also joked maybe he could watch beauty on the way. in fact, to me, i always think, or enjoy the scenes along the road outside, or listen to musics or english with my old mp3, or chat with friends beside, etc... for the ones who need to take a bus to work every day, and even not only several minutes. how to use this time is really a big thing, i thing. so, how abt u? how did u use this time?

I look out the windows or read. Sometimes have conversations with other passengers or sometimes the bus driver wants to talk.

I dont believe it is against the law for bus drivers to talk here (USA). I really dont know. There are a lot that talk to passengers. They also have video cameras so it does not seam that they are concerned about losing thier job if it is a law.

in fact, i dont know it much. i'm only afraid that if they talk with the passagers too much, then they cant focus on the road situation or driving.

Hello yolanda, Being on a bus. If travel in far places, I just got sleep while the bus is moving. It is good to sleep inside the bus, while listening to music...or sometimes read newspapers or a book. But before I sleep need to make sure first that the bus passenger is all well. I mean just analyze the situation first inside the bus to make sure there is no hold upper in it. If I feel something not good. I am not going to sleep till my feeling the danger of the situation being normal. happy mylotting...!!!

Hello yolanda, Pardon me for misspell the words "hold upper" that will be "holdupper". Holdupper is the one who use force in order to rob a person. This is a criminal acts or deeds, my friend. Yup!I am a very careful person. We need that principles to avoid any incidents or criminals. They say that "awareness is the best self-defense against criminals". I rarely travel by bus, but when I do, I am prepared - I generally carry a newspaper or a magazine or a book. I also carry a n MP4 player that can display text and I have transferred some books onto it. I love reading and hence carry something or the other as mantioned above to keep my mind busy while I tarvel on a bus.

When I was in China and had to take the bus, I would watch the scenery (if it was a long distance bus) or for familiar landmarks if I was trying to get somewhere because I could not read the signs since I know little or no Chinese. If I didn't know where I was going, I would see if anyone around me knew some English so they could tell me where I needed to get off. I usually would travel with someone who knew their way around or if I were on a long distance bus, I would have someone who knew both Chinese and English that I could have talk to the driver so that I would be able to get where I was going. In America, I would watch the names of the stops and be ready to get off at the right stop, having planned the trip beforehand. Sometimes, I would sleep, or at least close my eyes and rest them. Thanks for bringing up the topic.

Does it tell you in English? If I heard or saw it enough times, I might have been able to figure it out eventually, but my poor old English-thinking brain couldn't handle Chinese. I guess that is why I returned to America. Have a great day!!!

hi, daeckardt, i feel u'r a funny person. i dont know which city u have worked in. but if in the big city, like shenzhen now. the broadcast in the bus will tell u where you are and what's the next stop, u only need to remember where to get off. much easier, right?

I listen to the music, watch movie when there is a video. Sleep whenever i can or just observe the streets or views. You can't really do so much work when you are mobile. It only gives me headache.

that's nice to know that sleeping in the bus is like catching up with the sleep loss. have a nice day always

Hi yolanda, not that I am adverse to bus journey. If there is comfort I can go for more than 12 hours. Now the question what I do? If the co passenger is like minded talk of this and that sort would go for some to me and and then would prevail silence. when there is quiet I start nodding off. Yes I easily go sleep while traveling in a bus. if awake I steal the beauty of the outside nature.

Whilst I am on the bus I play with my daughter which is something i do all the time anyway lol. I am always playing with her and making her feel happy and i dont see why I should stop that because I am on a bus! I do get some strange looks at times and I just say to the people that are giving me the looks that my daughter deserves stimulation and if they dont like it then dont watch. I have been thrown off a bus not long ago as my daughter was laughing (she is only 13 months old) and somebody asked me to keep the noise down. I said to the woman if you cannot appreciate a childs laughter then there is something worng with you, she went and spoke to the driver and the driver stopped and shouted at me to get off the bus, I was so embarresed as the bus was full and I couldnt for the life of me see what I had done so wrong! Hope this enlightens you!

What's wrong with that woman? She is not normal.. your child only 13 months old! and why the driver shouted to you without ask anything to you? that's bad. If I were you I'll never go with that bus anymore! well,,nice to see you and your daughter still fine now^^,,
• China

that woman is really strange. doesn't she never have a baby? i feel every female loves the baby, esp their laughing. but if on the long-distance bus, cause some need to rest, i'll stop it. otherwise, i think i'll lodge a complaint against the driver by the complaints hotline on the wall of the bus.

There is an unwritten rule in some culture that noise is untolerated in public areas. In Taiwan, one is reminded on the train's loudspeaker to lower our voice when answering the phone and to keep the children in control.

When I go to my college, I travel 30mins by train and 30 mins by the Bus. On my way, I prefer reading Newspapers and update myself on current happenings in country and world. However when my exams are nearby my reading habit changes from Newspapers to my Studies Book. Well, afterall, academics is also of great concern for me. So, overall what I do on my route through Bus is 'reading'. Also I prefer continuing my habit in future as it gives me knowledge. Regards. MAK

when i'm on the bus alone i usually just look ahead of me and watch the scernery other times i write in a diary or journal because i never have any free time to do this but i'm on a 1 to 2 hour bus ride i have plenty time to read what i written a while ago and write some new things. if i'm on the bus with friends i usually just talk or were silent because its arkward to be the only ones laughing and talking on the bus while everyone else is just silent or looking at you.

In my country, and esp in my place due to plenty of population, bus journey is horrible. During peak hours, a lot of people jump out of a single way near the bus stops. We cannot enjoy the scenery but we need to think when we reach our place. lol... Lately government is providing more buses though it cannot withstand our population.. cheers

Lol when i was like 15 and bored i gather up my friends and get a Lotta change take the bus and just go to the terminal then we would go back, it was fun kinda like a road trip with strange people and there we would just meet new people and just mess around like if we were in a road trip, we even got to ride for free some times cause we even became friends with the driver, the dude was a huge bodybuilder and we've ask him to punch us to see how much he packs but he never did lol policies....

Hi yolanda, I go to work by driving auto. I could hardly get any bus to the office. I will travel on a bus only when having vacation locally or in foreign countries. I like to watch the scene on the way. If I could I usually would like to sit by the side of the window. This would be quite convenient for me to take the photos if I come across any. Sometimes I would like to chat with my companion. I like playing Sudoku on my cell phone or reading book if the journey is really long. I would have a short snap if feeling tired of playing game or reading. Happy posting

My bus ride isn't that long. If it were I would do crosswords. What I ussally do is take a seat where I can hold on to the pole and I practice playing guitar songs I know. The pole is just the same size as a guitar neck. I hear the music in my head and I play along.

hi yolanda!^^ just like you i usually listen to music while i'm on the bus. but most of the times i would just watch the view outside because the bus is already playing music on their radio. sometimes they would be playing a movie so i can't listen to music on my cellphone. sometimes when i'm traveling with a friend we would just talk until we get off the bus. a lot of times i would sleep too because the travel is usually far and i get sleepy with the cold aircon and swift movement of the bus. its like a lullaby.
• China
11 Aug 09
lullaby? now i really need a lullaby to get asleep. i feel i have a long time no here. these days, i'm on the bus more time than before, and i really slept or just only leaned on the seat most of the time.

I don’t catch the bus anymore. I used to do it every day for about 45 minutes to get to work and I loved it! I used the time to catch up on my books and I hated anyone talking to me because it interrupted my reading! Anti social I know but I really enjoyed and treasured those bus rides.

It depends on how long does it take me to be on the bus. Every morning, i spend about half an hour going to school. I usually review or do some preparation of the class. i don't like to do this at home, but when i am on a bus i have nothing to do so why not to do the reviewing an preparation? if i have longer time, i'll nap for a while.
