I have been smoking since 6 years. My fiancee wants me to quit smoking. I quit for two days once and then I started again. When I quit, I had all sorts of problems- fever, sore throat, stomachache, headache and excessive sweating. How do I quit?

Hi.....yashumgm
I appreciate you for trying to quit. I was a smoker for 25 years that is seven years back. Moreover I started the habit in my High School. I was a chain smoker.
For quiting you should have the willingness and committment. It is very easy. These so called all sorts of problems are the psychological effects. Nothing else. Take a decision in this moment and quit. First take a decision to quit for 24 hours. After that quit for 3 days. then one week, then one month. You never feel like smoking. The first twenty four hours will be a problem. Also dont use any substitute like mint or chocolate. You will be successful

Everyone is different but there are some aspects to quitting smoking that are common. Firstly you need to understand what smoking is all about, you need to know your enemy. By understanding as much as you can about smoking you will make quitting easier. Just stopping and denying yourself is the least effective method, only 10% of smokers successfully quit this way. Think about why you smoke, write down the reasons, then examine ach reason. For example if you write down that smoking relaxes you, when you examine that you will see that it is not entirely true. Smoking does not relax you, it raises your heart rate, consricts the flow of blood to your heart and stimulates the release of epinephrine, a "fight or flight" hormone. The illusion of relaxation is actually just relief from nicotine withdrawal.
The problems you had last time were just your body reacting to withdrawal without proper preparation, your little nicotine demon was taking control. They will soon pass, you have to believe in your ability to quit. I quit after 29 years of smoking and since have done a great deal of writing and research on the subject.
