Internet problems... Should service provider refund its customers?? The service provider I use had some problems with international internet and telephone service. So it has been all day without internet except for an hour where only the local newspaper website and their site could be accessed. Now it's 15.14 and internet is finally back. Some months ago the other main internet provider here had also some problem and people were left without internet. It really makes me mad that they don't have a back up plan if something goes wrong. And they are rivals so they don't have any arrangements to back up on each other if something happens. I don;t think this is fair since the customers are never refunded and we still have to pay for the service. In the morning it wasn't even possible to call on a local number, since I have the telephone also with the same company. Today i took a day off from work to run some errands and stay at home, work on mylot since the end of month is coming and I wanted to reach payout and do some studying. Well at least I studied a bit but still required internet for some research. One has to consider that today many businesses rely on internet connectivity and many of them will make losses even for an hour without internet let alone all office hours in a day. Does this ever happen with your service provider or in your country? Do you think they should refund their customers for the day's losses or at least give a reduction on next bill? Please share, I am curious to know what happens in other countries. Thanks & have a nice day!

So how are you feeling now after logging in internet after long time. Yeah man its really tuff if you are accessing internet all day and when some day you are unable to do so, it seems something is missing in the routines. Anyways there are some problems which are not in hand of Service Providers, and because of these there are downtimes like you faced. But at least my service provider do refund the amount for the period of downtime, so you need to check with your service provider about the same and also see the terms and condition they offered.

For us we did asked for a refund when it took days that we did not have a connection. We have been calling the customer support for assistance and solution about our problem, and yet they can't do anything so what my husband did was he talked on the manager and ask them to refund those days that we were not able to use the internet. Fortunately the company gave us the refund we needed on the next bill. It was really up to you how you keep calling them and bug them about it, because if not, nothing will happen, they will not do anything nor any refunds won't be possible. This is just a normal case now for us. Be it internet or phone bill, when we need to justify the status of our bill for the things we did not consume, we voice it out. Last month, hubby was charged extra RS65 for 4 sms messages that the company activated without his knowledge. We talked to them and complained that we cannot activate such settings since the mobile of hubby does not have internet connection, and they keep charging him explaining us that it was activate on our end. But customer is always right. We really stated that it is impossible to activate it since the mobile isn't capable of doing. The company refunded the amount and deactivated the said special SMS. Hope you voice out yours too.

It seems your provider is a serious company then. I still need to call them regarding my bill so I will also tell them about this. Thanks for your comment

The company just announced that it was offering its customers unlimited internet downloads free of charge for a month as compensation for disruption caused by a technical fault this morning. The company's CEO stated that "This is the first time that a local communications provider is offering compensation for a technical outage" That is good even though I download a lot I don't usually exceed the threshold as I download also during the night. But now for the month I will also download during the day

I do believe that if the IsP companies are unable to fulfill their duties than the customer should be refunded back. I guess the customers have the right to demand money back. I think this should be tested in a court case in order to set a milestone for others to follow. i think its fair on the customer to be refunded back on something he was not given.

Few months ago the same happened with the other Isp and also with electricity service but they only apologized. Problems with internet occur more often but may be only on a local area and usually in the morning. I notice that when I don't go to work and then I have to contact them from my mobile and stay about 2 or more hours without internet. Today's cut was all over the country so more people were affected. I am a member on an online game and even if they had 30mins downtime, your account will be extended for the length of downtime. Only some company who made losses from lack of internet can take them to Court, for common citizens it will be costly and may result futile seeing how things go here.
