The only way I knew to check my IP address is to go to the Command Prompt, and type ipconfig. When I am connecting to the Internet using the LAN cable, I always get IP address = 192.168.1.2, it seems like it's the default IP address.
I just found out there are actually some websites for you to check your IP address, here are the sites:
1. What Is My IP Address: http://whatismyip.com/
2. IP Chicken: http://www.ipchicken.com/ (I have no idea why the site is named with Chicken)

Hhhmmm...thanks for this useless but valuable information. How many times have I wondered, "What is my IP address" The answer is once or twice in my life. I don't know what the reasons for it...but I knew a man who can pin point where you lived simply by checking your IP addy.
But, I'll check into this just to see because I am that curious! =)

Hi there, thanks for your response.
I've just participated in some tasks that require the IP address. Well, careless me, I didn't think that it might be dangerous to disclose our IP address. Thanks for the advice.
At work, we always need to know the IP address, so that we can connect to the particular machine.

You can't pinpoint an address without the cooperation of the ISP involved. All you can get without them is the location of the ISP that owns that block.
As far as not caring about your IP address, you must either
a) have never done any networking/remote access/etc, or
b) have never done anything with computer security.
Most everyday users don't care.

Thank you for the information. I think that probably the chicken thing comes from an imaginative person and just wanting to be alittle different. Don't you think? Something like that would be easier to remember than a few numbers and some letters. Gotta make it easy or they won't find you.

That ip address is a internal ip.To identify each and every computer to the network we will have an external ip.The lan member will share a single external ip,as far as i heard.Internal ip's don't work in net meetings.IP chicken.may be the owner of that site likes chikenhehehe.

So far I have used 5 websites to check my IP address. I found the website What is My IP to be the best so far. I have been using it for more than a year.
The computer that you use is in a network. The clue is in the first two sets of numbers. The rhird set differs from one wireless router to another. The answer given by IP check websites is completely different.
Knowing the current IP address is important because it tells us whether our Internet connection has been hijacked or not. That was how I knew my computer was under the command of computers from various countries. They include China, South Korea, Japan, Nigeria, and Indonesia. This experience led me to using a stronger firewall.
IP Chicken? Probably because the website 'sqawks' the actual server that is monitoring our activities.
