Post Partem, or crazy, maybe a little bit of both?

I feel like a jerk for even posting about this topic since it is so disturbing, but it happened by the mother of a poor baby-
SAN ANTONIO - The scene was so gruesome investigators could barely speak: A 3 1/2-week-old boy lay dismembered in the bedroom of a single-story house, three of his tiny toes chewed off, his face torn away, his head severed and his brains ripped out.

Should we treat mothers like this like criminals, or mentally ill, how do you think we should punish crimes like this one? I know in nature many animals kill their babies from stress, so it is natural, but in a way like this in the day and age, it is most unnatural. What do you think the state of Texas should do to this mother?
To all the mothers out there, have you even experienced post partem symptoms, however small or big?

I think she deserves to be shot to be honest. No amount of PP depression could make you want to do that, even women that have severe pp depression dont do things like that to their children. If she was depressed she should have sought help from the care system.
From reading the articile it sounds like she had mental issues not PP depression.
Sickens me to my stomach to read things like that as a mother.
