I always talk baby talk to my dog. I don't want to spoil her but I just love her so much and I don't mean to brag or anything, but I think she's so cute! I don't buy her toys too often because I can't always afford them. I don't talk this way to my horse, or any horse for that matter, although I love him as much as I do my dog. I don't consider it a problem or anything because I know a lot of people do it. I just tend to talk this way to small animals because they're so cute and cuddly. Do you talk baby talk to your pets?

Isn't that the truth. Dogs give u unconditional love, people don't.

I never use baby talk except with very young babies. I find it annoying, perhaps because I stopped growing at 12 and I'm only 4ft 9ins and people have been talking down to me as if I was a child for the last 46 years.
As for my animals, and I've never lived without at least one cat and one dog, I don't see the need to treat them like babies. I look after a Pomeranian who's really 'cute' and own a cat that even though she's 5 looks like a kitten still, but I know neither are 'cuddly toys'. The Pom is every inch the dog my German Shepherd is and my cat would scratch or bite anyone who tried to baby her so it seems silly to talk to them that way. I talk to them all the time but in the way I talk to any family and friends. Even though I know that they only understand a few words in any sentence and that its those odd words, the tone of my voice, my emotions at the time and my body language they are responding to.

It would be a boring world if we were all alike and if your animals like it and respond to it happily then thats all that matters.
Mind you I'm a nutter anyway as I also talk to my fish and frogs as if they understand everything I'm saying! I even apologise for disturbing them when I clean their tanks, lol.

Hi Anmac! Like I always say, to each his own. I sure don't like people talking baby talk to me, either, and I'm 5'5". I used to be 5'8" but I've lost several inches in height in the last few years. I feel like animals enjoy it, though. It's my way of bonding with them, I guess. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

It's good that you don't talk this way to your grandchild at least. My parents and I used to talk this way to my nieces and nephews (their grandchildren) when they were little. We didn't know back then that they learn to talk the way you talk to them. I just love my dog so much and she's just like a little human baby to me, lol. Kathy.

We dont have pets anymore, but when we had our first cat... we were married in March of the year we got married and in May we got our first cat/pet ....we never really talked baby talk to him, although we did treat him like our child that was for sure...and when we would hand him over to each other we always said things like "go to papa" ...or "go to mama"....and "thats a good boy".... LOL
I have seen people talk baby talk to there pets and I dont get bothered over that at all... its cute and I think that animals get more attention that way and enjoy that.
as a suggestion for toys...go to yard sales and pick up some really cheap stuffed animals... or any little thing that looks like a dog would like...why buy brand new?? they are just going to chew on it....LOL
Happy mylotting and enjoy your dog!!!

Hi bookreadermom08! I think talking baby talk to my animals is just my way of bonding with them. I don't talk this way to horses, though. For some reason, it's just different with them.
At the grocery store where I have been buying groceries a lot here lately, they have chew toys for $1.00. Sometimes I will get my dog something from there. Most of the time I need to concentrate on what I need, though. I might try a yard sale sometime. Kathy.

Hey anniefannie! How are you doing? I hope you are doing much better these days.
Like I always say, to each his own. I guess talking baby talk to my animals is my way of bonding with them. Like I said in my discussion, though, I don't talk this way to horses. I guess it's just different with them for some reason.
My parents and I talked baby talk to my nieces and nephews (their grandchildren) when they were little. We didn't know back then that that wasn't a good idea, though. I've learned since then that babies and small children learn how to talk according to how you talk to them. Kathy.

Hi shazz282! I have a Jack Russell Terrier Mix, myself. I have heard that it's not good to talk baby talk to children because they learn what they hear. When my nieces and nephews were small, my parents and I talked baby talk to them (these were their grandchildren) but we didn't know this at the time. I don't think it matter how you talk to dogs, though.
Jack Russells are cute but they are so hyper, aren't they? I can't believe how high my Jack Russell can jump! Kathy.

lol Oh yeahhhhhh They keep me busy & are both full of life & energy. My oldest one never jumps high except on the furniture but my youngest dog jumps all the time. He makes us laugh so much cause he is so different then all the other dogs we have ever owned. :o)

I'm so sorry that I don't have a pet,so it's hard for me to talk about my thoughts.~~
But it's so sweety of you to talk to your pet, only small girls around me that talk to pets or toys.~~
But I think it's great for you to do that, that shows your love, your enthusiam to the life.
Thanks for sharing~~~Frank

That's just the way I feel about my animals. I think animals are smarter than what people give them credit for. For example, I'll ask my dog if she wants to go with me somewhere in the car or if she wants to go outside. Her ears just stand up at the word "go". If she sees me getting my car keys, cell phone, billfold, and putting on my jacket (if it's wintertime), she knows I'm going somewhere, lol. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

I usually do baby talks to my pets specially on my pet cat named Sabina, shes a Siamese cat and shes so cute. I usually do baby talking with her during her feeding time, cause she always call my attention when she is hungry. I consider Sabina as our baby, but unfortunate she is not with us now, shes already in the cats heaven.
