Why I say this?because Philippine showbiz sometimes is stupid and dull. Look at young stars, why they could not just make a movie or a TV show without being linked?why they just promote their shows directly with its worth and not splashing their pa-cute cute involvement. I am quite impressed with foreign films, the casts are not being linked and yet they are very successful. They never talk about their romantic involvement in the film with their co-stars and yet people watched their films. Why Philippine stars couldn't learn lessons from these witty form of promoting films?

That's simply because many Filipino moviegoers go for it. I can't really believe that such gimmick is working but I know some people who don't want to separate the movies and television shows from reality. They want to see the movie personalities live out their role in the movies. Can you believe that during the airing of Marimar, there are those who were wishing that Dingdong and Marianne will end up in each others arms even if they know that Karylle was very much attached with Dingdong? And what can you expect from movie producers and their publicist who only go after the profit? Of course they do will do even the absurdest thing just to gain publicity and money. I also do wish that the way they promote movies or shows here in the country will be changed. Nakakasuka na. Their ways made me more to stay away from seeing a Pinoy movie or television show. I think it is much better that they will just promote through well-crafted trailers rather than having their artists parading in all the malls, television and radio shows and you can hear nothing from them but their love life and feud with other movie personalities and invitation to watch their movies.

Yes, exactly, that's the right term "nakakasuka na". I don't believe that Filipinos are idiot enough to watch the film just because the two stars are head-over-heels inlove. Personally, I go for a film with a wonderful plot and fantastic cinematography and not because the stars are good looking or are being linked. The Philippine showbiz style is really painfully boring and dull-witted.

Unfortunately, you are more of the exception than the rule. Majority of the Filipino movie goers out don't want to grow. You will now miss that if you look on what is being patronized in the movie houses. How come trashy movies are doing good in terms of viewership while the good ones have to be shown abroad before they can hit the news? And even with the positive awards and positive reviews of a Filipino movie, they will only be a shown in a week or less in the movie houses. Really, really, sad.

Well, my dear I have the right to feel bored with what I witnessed in the environment and not because I want to please other people. That's what I had observed with our local showbiz and it is my right to voice out my opinion. Whatever your opinion you are entitled to that and you have no right to dictate other people's opinion. The issue is not about my being Filipino, my discussion-just in case you did not read it carefully-is about the Philippine showbiz and not my citizenship. Next time, before answering any discussion try to READ carefully the details and not splash right away to your lamentation. Is that clear?Oh, so you are new here. Just a piece of advise to last long here-Try to practice common sense and the art of reading.

"Silly" and "idiot tactics". Such harsh words from a Filipino. Well, if that's your view I respect it. I still believe in the Filipino talents. There are a lot of good actors and actresses in the Philippines, writers, too. That's why there are Filipino movies and indie films that were noticed abroad and even gained awards.

That is the sad part in Philippine showbiz world. People are making up stories just to be talked about. I myself is a little disappointed that they have to resort to these tactics. While some would still wish that their movie idols would end up with one another, I think that we should talk about the merits of the movie and not the personal lives of the stars in it.

The dull tactics of movie publicists to promote the "love story" of two leading casts are "gone with the ages"and not interesting anymore. In fact most of my friends are super tired listening to these kind of scheme and lies. Look at KC Concepcion and Piolo Pascual, now they're being stupidly link just because they have shows, and these two silly stars also are riding the "fancy" publicity. KC I think is a "good showbiz player"after her supposed sweet and romantic relationship of Richard Gutierrez sell out to the market she jumped off to another gimmick with Piolo Pascual.

hi jlamela! well, if you compare western movies with our own brand of movie, there's really no comparison at all. we are so far behind. so it would be hard if you use foreign movies as a benchmark to measure our cinematic feats. although, i do agree with you that something has to be done with our local cinema. not only do they make corny loveteam promotions (which we all know are fake) but they also show the same theme in almost all the movies. i'm sick and tired of seeing the same story line everyday! the poor being inlove with the rich. the rich fights for his/her poor love interest. the family is against all odds and acts as if the world is against them. this is the same story line every single time! can't they think of a better script? if these dramatic antics don't sell, they make bold movies and they call it an expression of art! frankly, i must say i have lost all hope with these so called tagalog movies. i prefer watching foreign movies any day! i think the last time i saw a really great filipino movie was Ang Mga Munting Tinig. it was starred by alessandra de rosi. American Adobo was great too! they should make more movies like that! okay i'm gonna sleep now. wake me up when they make better movies again. okay? hehehehe!

First of all, it's not my intention to compare our local films to foreign films, what I am trying to point out is that why local films always make highlight to the love story of the leading casts and not directly on the plot itself, why they are always linked and not focus on what their film story can offer to the public, because my observation, foreign films never do that. It's not a direct comparison if you just try to analyze my point.

hmmm... maybe it's not that good but think about the foreign films vs. philippine films. Foreign films get their introduction through trailers, and many more. Foreign films are already known for its actors. They are Holly wood stars - their pics. worth a lot. In order for filipino/filipina actor to be popular they must get the attention as possible as they can.

All I can say is that "LOVE YOUR OWN"....yes, they may not be good but at least for me they are entertaining the audience. I don't think it's stupid or dull but that is how showbiz should be dealt with, or it is simply "show buiseness".peace!

The Philippine showbiz thrives on "gimmickry". Local film producers are very much aware that Filipinos are fond of "showbiz rumours" or "gossipping" (see related discussion posted awhile ago). Ergo, they hire publicists to take advantage of this "captured audience". It's a very logical (and economical) marketing strategy. But I wouldn't agree that foreign films (e.g., in Hollywood) are devoid of this off-cam "romantic storyline" involving certain actors in a film. In some instances, it is also used to partly "attract" moviegoers especially those who are fans of the actors involved.

hahaha...i think that's the way it is coz we are here in the Philippines! hehehe and most Filipino audience or the 'masa' likes that...and through that style, they can get the attention and appeal of the majority... and if they do what foreign films are doing, i guess more or less the movie will just flop! just like what happens to some good movies that don't do good on theaters...see if the film is serious or something that don't involve love teams...then it don't sell in the market and the movies that involves love teams...they are the one which gets higher profit! profit is more important for some producers here...

Hi Jlamela, I can well understand your frustration over the poor ( in your version, as i do not know) performance in the showbiz. i feel this is the case with almost all emerging film city. They are not properly guided or do not wish to leave their tradition way of presenting the themes. Lets hope the future would be different.

Talents, story and proper marketing of the movies should be the way to attract audience.Bankable artists don't need intrigues to be talk of the town. They only choose projects which they can deliver well

i guess it depends on the viewer. we filipino like to exaggerate. and in show business here i guess this its their way of being more well known. compare to foreign show business which has class and glamour.' anyway whatever they do, in some ways I's sure you are still being entertained.. right? :-)

Hi jlamela! I agree with some of the things you said. Yeah sometimes I am saddened by the generally sad state of Philippine movies and tv series for that matter. For example, why can't they choose actors and actresses for their acting skills and not just for their looks...why are the storylines and plot almost always predictable and generally boring? Although, to be fair, they have gained alot in cinematography and graphics than before. However, the most important parts are still lacking-the story, the actors and the acting. I hope that our young and enterprising producers and directors and writers are able to raise the quality of movies in the Philippines soon!

And i thought i was the only one seeing this..i agree with you on this one. maybe it's because the manager paid them to...answer those questions and talk,talk,talk..showbiz here they believed that it won't be that spicy if there wasn't any sort of scandal, rumors, secrets and stuff..

the reason why our film industry is like that because there are more people who want to make them act like that and be linked with their co-stars. there are very few who are like you who want some "maturity" in the film industry. i would like to agree with you in some points, but i disagree on comparing us with the foreign films. all film industry have their own talk shows who make actors/actresses do some stupid things because those shows sell. and in the philippines, sadly those talk shows and movies sell in the box office. i have come to live with that.
