I had loaded Mcfee and Avg 8.0 on a vista loaded laptop. Now the Avg version was not compatible and Mcfee version had expired so i needed both to be removed. My sister came and deleted the programs directly without following Add/Remove program step by step procedure. Now at startup i get error messages. and i can not remove the programs completly by following the Add/ remove program procedure as it does not show any kb/Mb present, it just displays the name of the program. What should i do to get my computer functional properly.

First of all I recommend, save all your data then do format. Then what ever you want to do you do means partition, reload of OS and application software.
Only load one Anti virus which you have.
I feel this will solve your problem.
2. You cannot remove AVG anti virus with out format.

This has happened to me, you will have registry entries that have not been cleared properly and they need to be removed. I am not going to talk you through how to do this, Im not fully qualified to do so. However, Im going to recommend two things for you.
1. Install CCleaner from ccleaner.com, this will check your registry for unused entries and will probably sort out your problem.
If this does not work you can use these people for free, they will clean up your machine, over the internet, you must follow their instructions exactly. They have got rid of some horrendous viruses from my machine, and very succesfully. They are all volunteers.
2. Register with securitycadets.com and post a question, someone will get in touch within 24 hours and help you sort it out.
Hope this helps you. Oh and by the way, you should never run two antivirus programs together, they conflict with each other and can make your system more vulnerable, ie. one misses it and so does the other, bingo your infected.

oh thanks for the info, I never heard of securitycadets.com I think they are a computer geek! hehehe! you can use youruninstaller download it or you can use uniblue registry cleaner. that will clean your unused registry keys. or type msconfig and remove the antiviruses program on the startup. You don't have to run to anti viruses at the same time it will affect your speed or it might crush one of your anti-virus program. you should use 1 and use deepfreeze if you want to protect your clean system.

Hey,
This happened to my brother once, and all he did was delete some registry files, because even though you have uninstalled a program, the registry files are still their. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

Try these steps:
Reach the services page by typing as "services.msc' in the run window.
Now you select the correspond services related to the software you want to uninstall(three or four may be running) and stop the services If they are not allowing to do so, then to the task manager and select the related process and and give "end now"..Then you try to remove the corresponding folder in the program files of C drive. You may need to remove them in the command prompt also for some of the software.
Else you install the software and then try to uninstall properly.

Try installing the software again if you have the setup. It might provide you option to Repair or Remove, try Repairing to get the files back and then Uninstall the software.
Removing Registry entry will solve the problem. But, if you not experienced working with System Registry its better you take back up of your Registry and play with it.
