When pan frying do you use oil, Pam spray or butter. I love to use butter for almost everything but have been known to use olive oil. Do you think it matters?

i keep changing the oil i use, beit sunflower oil, rice bran oil, mustard oil, coconut oil, olive oil... that way i get all the nutrients from all the oils. but studies hacve show that olive oil is the best to consume , it has beauty benefits too. butter is tasty n anything fried in it tastes heavenly bt it is harmful so use it sparingly. olive oil tastes beeter n smells good too...

Our stores do not have any of the oils you said above. Where do you get them from?

Hi opinatedLady....I am from Pennsylvania and you know from living here that the Amish homemade butter is to die for, but I am unable to use it for much of anything these days. I use olive oil if I fry anything but I mostly bake things anymore since my husband had a heart attack and ended up having a heart transplant 3 1/2 years ago. I know there is nothing tast better then a big glob of butter on a helping of homemade mashed potatoes. We do cheat once in a while and have real butter on potatoes and pancakes...LOL flutterby

Well life is to live and sometimes a little butter does the soul more good then the healthy stuff does a body. All thing in moderation are good and yes the Amish butter is great. They do not have to keep it under a certain percentage of fat so it is creamier and more flavorful, European butters are the same. I like to use these in my baking because they just plain work and taste better. I do not do this a whole lot as we are health conscious also but it is nice once in a while.

Between olive oil and butter, I think it does, olive oil is known to be healthier for cooking, but I've heard that butter is tastier. I never use butter for cooking or pan frying, I always use olive oil and vegetable oil for any deep frying. I would like to use extra virgin olive oil, but they quite expensive, so I just normally use it for salad dressings.

Actually a lot of the time I put a little butte and a little olive oil in because I do like the taste of butter better with many foods.

I use a little oil. Spray and olive oil is expensive. Just a little vegtable or canola oil will do some magic, too.

funny, I just had this discussion with a friend last night! I am open to debate, but I believe that it depends on the heat you are cooking at. Both butter and olive oil can only stand low temperatures before they start burning. Once they start burning, they are no longer good for you! In my thinking, both olive oil and butter should only be slightly heated (if at all!). Vegetable oil is more robust for frying, but if you can get away from deep frying ... do. However we all love deep fried stuff now and again - just don't re-use that oil more than 3 times, max That's just my take on it, and I'm sticking to it!

to prevent butter from smoking, add a tsp of plain oil preferably sunflower oil to it. n i have even read this that, u mustnt heat oil to an extent that it starts smoking...

It depends on what you're cooking and also the pan you are using.. If the pan you are using is really good, sometimes if you cook meat or those with natural oils in them, you don't need to use anything.. Maybe just a pinch of butter or a drop of oil.. And even better if you don't use anything at all, the natural juices will come out, and it's non stick pan anyway.. :) But for pancakes.. I always use butter.. It's yummier that way, sure vegetable oil is good also great, but butter gives the pancake more flavor. As for sausages and bacon, I'll just put it in the pan without any oil or butter.. Let the fats just oil the pan naturally.. :) For eggs however, depending what type of eggs, if it's just a sunny side up egg, I'll use vegetable oil, and for scramble eggs or ommeletes, I will use butter.. That's just to add flavor.. But seriously, invest in a really great non stick pan, you'll eliminate any use of oil, pam spray or butter!! I've cooked an ommelete using no oil at all, and it turned out great!! nothing got stuck on the pan at all as well!!

It depends on what I'm frying and it depends on how high the heat will be. So, I think it does matter in a way. For instance, if you're going to pan fry something on really high heat, say a quick stir-fry in an iron pan, you wouldn't want to use butter or olive oil. Butter burns easily and goes rancid, and olive oil will smoke like crazy. Peanut oil, with a very high smoking point, is good for super high heats. Foods with medium-high heats, like a good sear on a steak or another cut of meat, do best, I think, with a canola or vegetable oil, or a mix of oils. For example, if you wanted the butter flavor but not the burn, you could mix butter with the oil, and the butter wouldn't burn. Olive oil is my choice for foods that will only be pan fried on medium heat. You pick up the flavor and avoid the smoke. I don't know what those spray options do. I don't use them. Happy frying! I just hope nothing sticks! :P Clean-up sucks :(

Well when either using butter, olive oil or vegetable oil you are going to have a different taste. If you are baking i would use a spray or butter, but when cooking over the stove, deep frying or in a skillet i would use olive oil or vegetable oil. I don't think it matters what you use, but it really is what you want and how you cook, someone can't really tell you how to do something that you have already been doing.

Hi OpinionatedLady, I am lucky enought to be able to use extra virgin olive oil all the time and never use anything else. I have my own olive grove which produces my own oil so it would be crazy to go out and pay money for anything else. As it's heaven on its own or on salads it sometimes seems a waste to use it for everything but as there's always enough why not, plus it's the healthiest oil out there.

i think so, there will be a difference in taste even slight one. for frying most of what i use here is palm or corn oil. olive oil is expensive here. for pancakes, some seafoods, i use butterfresh margarine, its like butter but cheaper. butter here cost twice as the prize of that butterfresh margarine im using.

I think it matters. It really depends on what type of "butter" you are using. I always use olive oil, the best I can afford. It is an essential oil to help lubricate joints and all. If I were to use any kind of butter, I would only prefer real butter. I don't use the fake stuff as it's just not good for us.

I use a lot of butter most often. My mom uses a lot of sunflower oil.To deep fry fish.MY mom uses the very strong mustard oil.I think that it is the dish that decides the type of oil to be used.Like,we use butter for pancakes, sunflower oil for curries and mustard for fish.

I use olive oil from most everything. it's healthier. I use butter for eggs, pancakes, mixing what calls for butter. Oil is used for deep frying. I don't use much else than olive oil tho.

Yes I do think it matters sometimes what you choose. If I am making pancakes I definitely use butter. If I am making a veggie burger or something like that I use either butter or olive oil. If I am making mozzarella sticks, I might use vegetable oil... It all depends on what I am making. I use different things depending on what I am cooking.
