Well my mother recently lost her cat of 10 years. He was very sick with liver problems. So she decided she wanted another mainecoon cat. She looked and looked and found a bredder on the Internet. Now the breeder is charging $1000.00 because the mother is a show cat. And the cat is purebreed . Do you think she is going to be paying to much.

Uh, considering the dozens of cats that are posted for free or almost free on Craigslist alone, EVERYDAY, yeah, I think she's over-paying. If she insists on going through a breader, when hundreds of thousands of kittens sit in animal shelters, find one that isn't claiming their cat as a "show" cat. This guy is ripping her off.

I just checked- there are 2,453 mainecoons available for adoption on petfinder.com, from any age from kitten to adult. This is assuming you are in the US of course, guess I should have checked that. But if you are, I'm sure there's a few in your area, and adoption fees typically are around $115, some times less. And you'll be rescuing a cat in need. Just something to think about.

I don't know what the prices are for Maincoon cats or kittens, but by the sound of what you say, the cat that she is being offered is a breeding cat and if she is not looking to breed the cat, then she will be wasting her money in buying such a cat. I think that she'd be better off trying to find a Maincoon that is either in a shelter, they do get dumped and abandoned sometimes, or one that is for sale as a non - breeding cat. Pedegree of not, if the cat is nutered, it should not cost anything like as much as you would expect to pay for a breeding cat.
They are one of my favorite cats by the way. Though I heve never owned one, I think that they are lovely cats.
