Has anybody out there tried Intermittant Fasting (IF)?
I'm unhappy to report that I fall bang in the middle of that vast populace that have tried almost every diet under the sun and failed. I get the initial positives with almost all but soon regain any losses (plus some) once I stop. The penny soon dropped and the words "Lifestyle Change" came screaming at me. The thing is I love food!!!!
I began to read around this subject of lifestyle change as opposed to diets and found a community of people who have seen wonderful results with IF. I've been trying this now for 5 weeks and was hoping I could strike up some interest about the topic here. Maybe call on some experts or fellow grubbers to share ideas/comments.

Well I havn't tried it before, but it sounds kinda unhealthy, I mean does it mean that you fast for a certain amount of time? not very healthy sounding. but yes lifestyle change. tats it. its impoossible to just go on a diet and stop it anytime and go back to the way you were going. Of course you'll regain everything. The things is you have to STICK with it. I've started to eat healthier and exercise. I've never really liked the whole "change what you eat" thing, and I believed it would work but I never really thought it was worth trying or I'd actualy do it. But it's not like dieting you have to pick foods that have these 5 factors in it to keep you filled up and healthy. Pick foods with:
1.Lean protein - like egg whites, nonfat cheese, grilled chicken/fish.
2.Healthy carbs - brown rice, whole wheat bread and pasta.
3.Fiber - fruits veggies and healthy carbs
4.Healthy fats - like olive oil and found in fish like tuna or salmon
5.Unsweetened drinks - water or tea
At first I just decided to stick to these rules and do 30-60 min of cardio and strength exercises every other day. And in the first week i already lost like 2/3 pounds! but after the first week i didnt really stick to the exercises, I kept pretty good food but I didn't lose any more because exercise is a big thing too.

I totally agree with your plan and it makes sense. I generally do the same but in an 8 hour window and in 3 meals a day. I bought into the eat every 3 to 4 hours up to 6-7 meals per day as is the norm for the bodybuilding community. However it made me more freakish about food. How many tubberwares I brought to work and constantly looking at my watch for the next meal etc....It just made me more hungry :0). This IF thing has helped me so much. 3 meals a day in an 8 hour period and in the first 5 weeks (without having to resort to exercise)I've managed to lose 2lbs a week. So I'm 10lbs lighter and doin well.

wow. that sounds great, congrats on tat too! :) and yea, i was hearing you should eat every 3 hours but like you said it's so much harder cuz I have to constantly look at my clock and then make so many different things esp.when im going somewhere. and who honestly eats tat much in one day? so I just end up sticking to eating breakfast, lunch and dinner. And tat's an interesting plan :) i never heard of IF but maybe I should try it now. :)

I'm about to check out the site you posted.
I believe in changing the way you eat. Bring down your serving size on red meats, stop drinking soda's and sugary drinks etc.
But, I still bit the bullet again last week and got on a diet. I have too many lbs to lose to do it one pound a week.
Good luck to me.

Hi melycota,
It's still working for me. Slow and steady. 8 weeks yesterday and I've lost 12 lbs. I reckon I can reach my target before December. Normally I would quit at such a slow weigth loss pace but for some reason I want to take my time and do it right. Afterall it took 20 years to get there :)
